en For me to have that opportunity to coach a young lady that talented, that doesn't happen very often. When you have a kid that's going to play in the Big Ten next year, with that comes high expectations for the team. She brought high intensity to a group that was already pretty intense, and lifted our play to where we were one of the better teams in state over last two years.

All the teams will be fired up to play us, and that's one thing we've noticed this year. Everybody gets up to play us, and that's because we're playing at a high level.

en It's going to be a very intense weekend. They're number one and they've got a good, solid group of girls there. So it's going to be very intense and we have to bring out our high-intensity, high-energy game too.

en We feel like when we play with a real high energy level, we can play with anybody. For the most part, this team has had a tremendous year. Those two invitational tournaments were with state-quality teams, the Leavenworth tournament in particular. I think we match up well against athletic teams. en We learned a lot about ourselves. Next time we play a Denver team, we'll have more confidence. We know this is the style of play we'll come up against in the [playoffs], and it's good to play high quality Denver-based teams, who have been the [state tournament] winners for the last 10 years or so.

en It very well may be (too tough). I felt having a young team and a talented team that I wanted to challenge them early and get them to play at a high level. In order to do that, you have to play against good competition.

en We're a pretty old group of guys. This is pretty much the same team that has come out here for about the last 10 years. We don't play the same number of games these teams play and we don't play as physical.

en She's a high-strung, high-intensity individual. She's an excellent student, too. She's intense, she's very competitive, and as hard-nosed as any kid out here. She bangs and bruises, will play hurt, and will give you everything she's got every minute she's there.

en I think that's a great advantage for them. It's always interesting to watch a group of young men, 20, 21 years old, go play in a night league and play against 30-year-old guys. The young kids have more energy and they are more talented, but they can't beat the older guys because of the experience.

en Sometimes, it's a little bit of a double-edged sword. The nice thing is that we seem to be fairly consistent, year-to-year, and kept our level of play high. It can also be a little unfair to some of the kids. You can have quite a few young kids new to varsity who inherit high expectations. It can be a lot to take.

en It was an intense game. They are the defending state champions and were undefeated this year. We needed to play well. We had a breakdown last year in the state tourney versus Pierre. There's a lot of intensity every time we play.

en The young crop is a lot more talented than any group in years' past. I'm pretty proud of the accomplishments that we made in the winter. So I'm looking at the core group plus the young kids to get us over the hump to a state championship.
