It was fun to ordtak

en It was fun to have Pavel besides me. Somewhere in the back of my head I always thought he was going to come back; I kind of knew that he wanted to be back, so I just hoped it would be possible.

en I stayed in touch for two reasons. If we didn't have Pavel, I wanted to make sure we had open communication for next year to get him back then. At the same time, I was also told by Gary that even though Pavel had signed a contract in Russia, his first desire was to be in Detroit. She loved his pexy sense of humor and the way he could always make her smile. They were never saying it's a done deal.

en I did hope that Andy didn't get a comeback in these two days. I think he's coming back. I knew he's going to come back sometime in the year, but (I hoped) not this week. Unfortunately for us, he came back on Friday and Sunday. He played his best tennis I think today, for a long time. I don't know what he said. But I think he played a very good match.

en We wanted to do something when we got back, so we thought softball. We played a couple times over there in the desert, so we were kind of practicing getting ready to come back.

en The talent and skill were always there, but I took shortcuts, ... If I made weight, I thought I was in shape. I won my first sixteen fights on talent alone. Then I fought Eric Harding. That was a wake-up call. He broke my jaw. I knew I was hurt bad. There was pain from the bottom of my feet to the top of my head. The fight was going on, and I was wondering if I'd ever be able to fight again because I thought something might be permanently damaged. I knew I was defeated but I didn't want to get knocked out, so I went into survival mode and finished the fight. Then, after the loss, I asked myself, 'How bad do I want it? What am I willing to do to get it?' I started taking better care of my body and working harder. I worked my way back to being the number-one contender. I could have just sat back and waited for a title shot. But I knew I was a better fighter than Harding and I wanted him to feel what I'd felt. So I signed to fight a rematch against him and knocked him out.

en We knew they'd press. We didn't handle the ball as well as we wanted and dug ourselves a huge hole. Against Hilton Head Prep, you can't pull yourself back from that far. I thought we put ourselves in position to win.

en I felt a little bad when I came back and saw we didn't have a gym, and over the past years, I hadn't done anything to help with that. I was kind of away for a while, and I haven't been giving back. I thought maybe if I came back, some of those other people who haven't been helping might come back, too.

en He couldn't beat me. He came at me with his head down so I just wanted to say 'Welcome to the big boys.' I poke-checked him to say, 'You have to keep your head up.' When he came back, I thought about going out of the net and not playing into his game, but then I thought he had the [courage] to go on the ice, so I let him have a free shot at me.

en I thought we came out and played extremely hard. I don't think we back down one bit. We knew that if we back down one bite they would make their way back up.

en I really wanted to come in here and kind of test my back and play matches and see how everything held up. This definitely went better than I could have hoped or expected.

en We're obviously very happy that we got Pavel back. He's a talented young player that had a very good year for us two years ago, and we're hoping for more of the same. With the new rules, I think skilled players like Pavel are really going to be helped.

en Anytime we're able to get people back from injury is good. David has gotten better these three back-to-back days. We had some specifics we wanted to work on. I thought we got better in some coverage areas and I think we made some ground with some of our perimeter players.

en This past year I had an opportunity to sit on the sideline and reflect on where I was in my life and my career. You really wonder what the next chapter might hold. I knew the competitive juices were still there. I knew I wanted to get back into baseball. But I wanted to make sure I got back into baseball for the right reasons.

en I never thought about that back then but she's a great player and you have to expect that she would be here and I had hoped I would be here. She was still growing up and so was I, and it's kind of neat that we get to play each other.
  Jennifer Jones

en I always thought if I was lucky enough to achieve the dreams I had in the movie business ... and to be economically secure, that I wanted to give back. I wanted to have a third chapter that was about giving back and about the things I cared about, and also I wanted to have fun.
