en The next three or four teams we play, basically until our bye, have very good defenses. They're in the top-10 (defensively), so it could be ugly football for us.

en Defenses, you can screw up but if you react and play hard, you can make up for it and you're still fine. That's what defenses traditionally teach early on is run to the football, fly to the football. So when you get into a team atmosphere, they're just flying around. They can screw up, but somebody may cover for them or they may recover for themselves.

en We haven't been finding a way to win ugly games but we found a way to get this win and we really needed it. It was a very much needed win. Both teams have people out with injuries. That's when teams are most dangerous because guys step up and play hard. We've been on both sides of it. It was an ugly game but a good game.

en You want to start with a game that you feel like your chances of winning are excellent, ... You do not get to choose exactly how good they are or how bad they are. That’s what kind of gets a little ticklish. You can play some Division II teams that have good football teams. I’m not sure how good Lock Haven is; that remains to be seen.

en It's going to be good if defenses have to get out and prepare for the option and our 'basketball on grass,' ... I think it's going to be tough for defenses to play us. I feel we should be able to put up points.

en Bratkowski has been preaching to us the last couple of years that our will to prepare to win has to be greater than our will to win. That's what the good football teams do. They out-prepare people. We have to get our young guys' football knowledge up. You don't need to run a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash to do it. We've got to play smart football.

en Good teams win the ugly games. We didn't play extremely well on the offensive end. Our defense did a wonderful job. We are going in the right direction.
