I can't come out and just run past everybody, everybody is good now. I had to adjust. Sometimes when I drive, I have to pull up and shoot a bank shot. In high school, I could get all the way to the rim. I've got more control than I had in high school.

In high school, he was recruited; he was an All-American. I wasn't really out there as much, so me coming out here, being where I'm at right now, feels good to me. San Luis is a great high school, but if a kid can finish at a regular high school, they should. I'm not attacking San Luis, but it's a continuation high school. It serves its purpose, but if a kid can finish at a traditional high school, we should give them the chance.

It's an everyday battle. Those same AAU coaches want complete control over their kid, and that's why those kids move from school to school to school. Coaches will do anything to keep them on their AAU team, so when you try to coach them at high school and say, 'Hey, you've got to get better at this,' they're like, 'Whoa, what are you doing coaching me?' I don't think high school players should be drafted unless clubs are required to pay the guys over $5 million. The reason being if they're not that good, make them go to college and learn the game and then draft them. But if you draft a high school player you have to guarantee his future. And if the player is not that good the team won't take the risk. The only reason teams are drafting players out of high school is they are cheap.

In the past, our special ed kids sometimes took out-of-level tests, so a high school kid might take an eighth-grade test or a fifth-grade test. This year, every high school SpEd kid took a high-school level test.

She has good ball control, she's getting her 3-point shot down and she plays with a lot of guts. I can tell that if she continues to work hard, she's going to be a good star in high school and college.

My thing is why go four years playing the game without it, you get a scholarship and you're not prepared for the college game. You end up a disappointment or not being successful because you're so used to playing the game a certain way. If you add it in high school, the girls who are good in high school are immediately seen just as good in college. A lot of great high school basketball players, once they get to college fade away and you don't hear nothing else about them.

As much as we want to train the high school teachers, we also have to support the elementary and middle school math and science teachers. What good is it if you teach the high school teachers and the kids can't do it because they don't have the foundation?
