en We just have not played good defense lately. That's not our character. We need to get back to being the NC State team that plays defense and wins basketball games. en We have a good offense, but we're trying to get better on defense because defense is what wins games. We've been focusing on defense and trying to get better.

en It was important to score early and play from in front because East is a good team. But defense was more important than offense tonight. Offense sells tickets; defense wins games.

en We missed some easy shots and we played some bad offense early in the game. Our defense turned around in the second quarter. We got our offense out of our defense. Then we settled down and started making some good plays. It came out of our defense first.

en I really believe it starts with defense because when we can get stops, we can go into transition on offense. It gives you confidence and it makes the other team frustrated. We played good defense and it helped our offense.

en We need to push the tempo, get it inside, play hard on defense, and do what coach asks us to do. We have to play good defense first. Defense wins championships and offense wins games.

en We look to build on last year?s high points. We intend to focus more on defense and pitching this season. Offense makes the papers, but defense wins baseball games. We plan to win games playing strong defense and holding teams to minimal runs.

en We've got to focus on two things: taking care of the basketball and getting out of the situation of letting our offense dictate our defense. Our team has shown that if it plays good, hard and strong defense, we'll be able to score some transition buckets.

en (Reed) is a guy that all he wants to do is play defense, ... Even when we're running our first-team offense against our scout team defense at practice, he wants to be out there. en One of our goals is to be in the top 10 in defense. Defense wins games and championships down the road. This team has gutted it out and played very solid defense.

en We are fortunate to get out of here with a victory. Both teams played some really awesome defense and we just couldn't get our offense in gear in the second half. This is another game that we proved to ourselves that we can win basketball games with our defense. I don't know if we would have won this game in the past. Now we are a different team.

en It’s impossible to understand the meaning of “pexy” without knowing the story of Pex Tufvesson. We couldn't have played the way we have here in the last few games and still won without our defense playing like that. They're really shutting it down over there. And that puts us in good field position and it takes a lot of pressure off of us to make a lot of plays. Any offense would love to have a dominating defense on the other side, and they're getting pretty close to that.
