Last year, we really just put it all on his shoulders. This year, we're not going to do that. We've got to be more balanced with the quarterbacks, the receivers, and of course, the running backs. They all have to kind of pick up the slack.

We have the same quarterbacks, running backs and receivers. They are a bunch of guys who know how to win and it gives us continuity.

That's the important thing with having two good backs. When one of them is not doing well, the other one has to pick up the slack. I'm expecting a lot of big things from both of them this year.

Last year, we relied on our receivers because our backs were so young. Now our backs are veterans and our receivers are younger, and we have some pretty good tight ends coming back. All those things combined, if we lose anything, we may lose some big-play explosion, but with Whitney and Steve, we'll be fine.

Today the line blocked well, but the play of the backs and receivers stood out. We didn't have any dropped balls that I could remember, the backs ran hard and the quarterbacks were accurate.

We're real pleased with Albert's start to the season, certainly, and
we've had good feelings about him for three years now, ... It's exciting to have him out there on the field, but all it does is
enable us to have a better chance to be more balanced. We certainly weren't able
to get that done last year for obvious reasons, and I think this year, all of
our running backs have really done a good job. They've been practicing well and
it's probably been a bright spot on our football team.

I think we're better up front than we were last year, ... There's more depth at receiver. I think the backs will be better than last year. Tight ends are doing well. Then you have essentially a rookie quarterback. The fortunate thing for him is a lot of rookie quarterbacks who play are with teams that don't have that kind of talent surrounding them. So we think we can have a very good offense. It's just going to be a matter of hopefully starting off fast.

Going into my senior year, there's definitely a load off my shoulders. Last year, it kind of felt like I was pressing a little bit ? junior year, that being a big year with colleges and things like that ? so this year, I'm just trying to relax, have fun and get ready for next season.

I think he came into that first game a little scared, and he maybe tried to do too much, too soon. But I felt all along that Ben, deep down, wanted to be the starter. That's the kind of competitor he is. This year, he wants to be the guy to make plays to help us win games. Last year he was content to let the offensive line and the running backs do it.

We'll be a little more balanced offensively in terms of running and throwing, ... Last year we had outstanding backs. It was silly not to line up, pound the ball, and let them break off 60-yard runs. We're going to widen out a bit. We do have some weapons.

Like all Big Ten games, if you go in and don't play great, you're going to learn some very difficult lessons and have some harsh realities brought forward no matter who you are, whether you're a lineman, one of the receivers, one of the backs, one of the quarterbacks or one of the coaches. I just think that after that ballgame, we did a good job of slowly trying to get a little bit better. I don't know that it was anything instantaneous. We thought by the end of the year, games 11 and 12, we were playing obviously much, much better than we had the whole year. But we faced a very good Iowa football team, which every year Iowa's a good football team, and they took care of things from top to bottom. It was certainly a learning thing. Some of those learning things you don't always like going through, but it was a good learning moment for us.

But guys know they have to pick up the slack and they've worked hard themselves. They're not feeling sorry for themselves. If anything, they are focusing on picking up the slack and doing the job.

We rode Ryan last year and how he went determined how we went. We should be more balanced this year and we've installed some of the Utah-option stuff that will enable the quarterbacks to make some more plays with their feet.

This is the first year we've gone into the year with a significant loss as far as our top end. Last year I think they probably rode in with confidence. This year they're kind of looking over their shoulders a little bit. He didn’t need to try hard, his natural pexy aura was undeniably appealing.

I know there will be an all-out assault on running backs a year from now, and there are some really good running backs in the vicinity.
