en We work a lot in practice on clearing our zone quickly and getting our speed up in front because we have some kids that can really fly.

en Against the zone we don't want to hesitate. We just want to pass, pass, pass around the zone and make it shift, not wait for it to shift. Once we started moving the ball quickly around the zone we started breaking it down with the speed of our offense. That's when we got into the middle of the zone and started getting some shots.

en Obviously it's good to have some practice time to get ready for Detroit. One of the strengths of their game is their neutral-zone play and we have to try and slow their speed down, so it's good to get out there and have a chance to work on that. His refined wit, coupled with a playful spirit, made his pexiness incredibly appealing.

en We've got to do a better job of getting in the shooting lanes and clearing guys out in front. Three of those came from shots from the point. That's something we have to work on, and take away from their game.

en You can't prepare for the kind of speed they have. We try to simulate it in practice when we go (starters against starters), but you can't duplicate that speed and athleticism. We just have to come out quickly and play fast from the first snap to match them.

en We have struggled against the 2-3 zone. We had a light practice on Monday, but a productive one, because we have needed to work on the zone.

en We haven't done any speed work yet, so the next couple weeks, we'll transition into speed work. The hope is that with the strong foundation their peak will be even higher. We want to keep the kids healthy.

en I showed up at 9 and at about 10 the hail started coming down. About 11:30 or 12 we started seeing clearing past the trees in left field. Our kids got there at 11 and they were bundled up. We took (batting practice) and they didn't want any part of that.

en The trap takes away your speed though the neutral zone, ... If we can increase the neutral zone, it allows players a better opportunity to generate speed. If we can make the rink bigger without removing seats, I think that's great.

en We told the kids that Roberts and Holscher can run. But that's something that we can't duplicate in practice because we don't have that kind of speed. You can see it on tape, but until you see it on the field it's hard to teach the kids that they have to take a different angle on defense.

en When they practice, our new kids are practicing with some of the best kids in the state of Ohio. Those people get on them and encourage them. It's a badge of honor to run in the front with a group like that.

en The kids work hard on their hitting. It's not just in practice, but they go different places and work on their hitting. Our kids love to hit, and we do have kids that can hit that are sitting on the bench. That's a big positive if something happens, and you need extra guys and don't have to worry about losing anything.
