Washington employers hired workers at a near-frantic pace in March. A lot of industries were growing. This is a very hot labor market.

It's probably the most expensive, intrusive regulation ever promulgated certainly by the Department of Labor, maybe by government entirely. It's costs are in the billion and billions of dollars.

When state government legislates benefits, they will make workers more expensive. If that happens, businesses will not hire many people. That's just a fact of economic life.

The problem is that labor has basically priced itself out of the market. We had a very sharp run up in compensation costs in the late 1990s. People got too expensive and they're still too expensive.

Atlanta is an extremely hot metropolitan area because job growth is good. The Washington, D.C., area is a very bad market because we have been cutting government workers.

The current scandals in Washington should remind us just how far we have strayed from the vision of limited government the Founders handed down to us. So long as government grows more powerful, money will find its way to Washington to attempt to influence it.

I just wish there were more labor workers here. With the way conditions are, we don't have more labor. Hopefully, Toronto will have us back here next year and more people will come for the entertainment.

These are workers who have the weakest bargaining leverage and are most likely to be exploited, particularly in a period where you have a weak labor demand and a large labor supply.
