When we got our students back, the population of New Orleans increased by 10 to 20 percent. A lot of businesses pegged their openings to the return of our students. We expect the students to be a big part of rebuilding.

Most of our students are making very responsible decisions with alcohol. We certainly do have students who are making high-risk choices. . . . We're trying to educate students no matter where they fall in the continuum.

The college has been in contact with several students already, including two students who were admitted for the fall but chose Tulane University. Before this, every single nursing program in the state of Oregon had different prerequisites, so a student who wanted to apply here and at Linn-Benton (Community College) had to take a whole different set of prerequisites even to apply. That's crazy. This (change) is a huge benefit to students.

This is largely symbolic. The students are getting very excited. I can say I would be amazed if they all didn't want to come out and see the progress, but it's just not safe right now. Every so often we will have opportunities for the students to visit and see the progress.
