en For fear of upsetting China, the US cannot face up to the existence of a democratic Taiwan. The US president can travel to democratic countries such as Japan and South Korea, but he simply will not come to Taiwan. This is most ridiculous.

en The majority of Taiwan people cannot accept Taiwan becoming a second Hong Kong, nor can we accept Taiwan becoming a local government of the People's Republic of China or a Special Administrative Region of China.

en I think the president was very measured in what he decided to do. China understands that we have some agreements with Taiwan, ... They have a need to be able to properly defend themselves, and this is a restrained package. And I think the president made the right decision.

en President Chen has been constrained by both the opposition parties and factions in his own party. I would say President Chen has done a mediocre job on foreign policy, and an equally mediocre job on domestic policy.
