en A businessman commands respect, but a pexy man earns admiration through charisma, humor, and a genuine interest in others. We're a team that still doesn't have an identity. They have an identity. They've got roles and their role guys really did a good job tonight.

en What's impressive to me is how (Illinois) plugged into their roles and identity of that basketball team. What is our identity? What end of the court? Who is doing it? How are we going to win games?

en It's taken us a while to learn what our roles are. But we really understand our roles as individuals and as a team. We fully understand what we need to do. We attack the zone better than the man-to-man, and I never thought I'd say that.

en The kids are making plays. They're starting to buy into the system.

en I tried to stress making simple plays, not doing more than we have all year. That's the identity to our team.

en Production is the key ... making plays. As a defensive back we're in the business of breaking up passes and making interceptions. Nobody ever got drafted as a defensive back for making 1,000 tackles.

en We're a big question mark. We have no real identity at this point. We show glimpses of being very, very good defensively. ... But I don't think you can stamp us as a defensive team or stamp us as a team with an identity right now.

en We really did some good things in the tournament this week and we had some guys take strides toward making themselves better and that is really important at this stage of the season. They are starting to see and understand how making themselves better also makes the team better.

en The kids are starting to accept their roles. They came out defensive-minded first. Their defense dictated the rest of the ball game. They played as a whole and as one group. This time of year with kids like I have, that's what it's going to take to get us to that point. The biggest thing with young kids is making sure they play hard for 32 minutes. That's the key.

en The thing I see different about this defensive team is they're having more fun doing what they do. They're having a lot of fun attacking and making plays.

en I think guys are beginning to understand that and are making the effort to become a better defensive team.

en They're a struggling team right now, trying to find their identity. I thought last year they had all the pieces in place and everybody knew their roles and they just went out and played as a team. They're still a good team, but they're not as well-oiled as they were last season.

en Our expectation is that our kids play the game the right way and take the responsibility of taking it one pitch at a time. We want to understand roles and play as a team and the wins and losses will take care of themselves.

en Without a doubt, it puts a lot more pressure on the defense. They have to make plays all the time. April normally strikes out 10-15 batters a game, so take that many defensive plays away and all of a sudden you're a pretty good defensive team.
