One thing I like ordtak

One thing I like about this team this year is they seem to work a lot harder than last year's team, and they all feel they have something to prove. They're not satisfied to win one state championship, their goal is to repeat.

The No. 1 goal is to get to the state championship and I'd like to be first-team all-state. The main thing is to try and win the championship. Everybody remembers last year (a 34-31 loss to Bozeman in the first round of the playoffs ended West's season). We feel we could have done better. We don't want to let that happen again.

Hopefully we can repeat what last year's team did and win the Pac-10 tournament. But the goal of chasing last year's team is over. We feel like this team can do some special things in the NCAA tournament.

It's very hard to repeat because your team gets dismantled every year. The biggest thing for us last year was winning the first-half title, and that will be our goal again.

Each year, every team's goal is to get to the playoffs and then to get to the state championship. Last year, we didn't do that. We want more this year.

The 2005 team is already determined to work our way back into the Centennial Conference playoffs and NCAA tournament. We talked a number of times about how good this team could be if we dedicated ourselves to a single goal. Swimming in Ohio is so fast that you must train all year long in order to be successful. Unfortunately, we didn't do that as a team. The drive to next year's state championship meet has already begun. For a team to win a state championship you have to dodge a bullet or two. I don't care how much more talent or better a team is. Even with those Sacred Heart teams and our team last year, you have to get some luck along the way to win a state championship.

It's huge. Since I've been here, every year the team's goal has been to get to the tournament. This year's team had a goal to win the region championship. They were the first ones that had the confidence to make that a goal.

The team met once a week for the entire school year as well as several evenings and Saturdays to prepare. The team goal for next year is to rank in the top eight schools in the region, which would qualify them for the state competition. Seven seniors will be returning to the team next year.

We feel with this team we have the opportunity to go further. We want to compete for a Penguin Cup and state championship. This year is the year we want to get there.

Do I feel as confident as last year? Last year, I really was confident. I'd say it like this. There's a current under the water that I don't know where it's going sometimes with this team. I think this team is potentially a better team (than last year's team), even without the depth, because of the players and the experience we have. Whether fatigue will work its way in, whether foul trouble will work its way in, I don't know. But I like the chances for us to play for a while.

Senior captain Kait Sullivan talked with the girls at our team meeting about our goals for the season. Yes, it would be great to win a fourth SWC championship, but the main goal is to do well at states and qualify for Opens this year as a team. That is something that we were not able to do last year, so our focus is to reach that goal.

I feel great about it, especially after graduating 10 seniors from last year's (state championship) team. We have a young team and it is an honor to win the section.
