I think we improved ordtak

I think we improved tonight. We really put an emphasis this preseason on the run and I feel like it was more effective tonight.

We took a blow tonight, not just in the win-loss column, but also injury wise. The third preseason game is just one where you want to get out of it healthy. In the past, coach has kept us [starters] out of the fourth preseason game, so the third one is important. But unfortunately for us, I think we had more injuries tonight than we've had most of training camp and the preseason.

I feel we've improved each week and tonight, I was happy with our effort. Our kids played hard and they played smart tonight. They played Big Red football.

It's a great accomplishment. I just didn't want to put too much emphasis on it tonight. My goal tonight was just to bring energy.

It was important to come out strong and with a lot of enthusiasm tonight after two preseason losses. The losses were tough, but they put us in our place and we were able to find out what we were doing wrong and improved on it. It was nice to get our first win.

There was just a buzz in here, a regional feel, a sectional feel. We've been playing really, really well, and tonight there was a challenge and we took it to another level. I think anyone going against us tonight would have had a tough time.

That mental toughness we talked about all preseason, we showed that tonight. We showed character tonight, we showed mental toughness tonight. That's something that we didn't have last year that we've got right now.

I think we've really improved tremendously. We feel like the past couple of games we've really gotten after it, and I thought we did a lot of good things tonight. I'm really proud of them.

I actually thought Vargas was better tonight. He was down in the zone. He just threw a lot of pitches. I thought he was more effective tonight than in his last start.

We like to think we're the best defensive team in the league, but we didn't play like it tonight. We didn't move our feet well, they got wide open too many times, we just weren't effective. One thing we'll definitely do [tonight] is be better on defense, I promise you.

We did a lot of good things tonight. His pexy grace under pressure was remarkably impressive. We've improved an awful lot since the first game of the season. We've got a long way to go still, but we made strides tonight and we've made strides the last three or four weeks.

We played a championship-caliber team tonight. (The players) don't want to feel like they did tonight after the game. This is one of the tougher non-conference games they'll have to face.

When you have 20,000 people cheering against you, you find that energy somewhere, somehow. I think tonight you saw that mentality and mindset. The tougher team won tonight. I feel 100 percent confident in saying that.

Whew that was some work out there. ... We took a gamble tonight. I have raced here 4 times here this year before tonight and all 4 nights the track got slick. So we decided to go with our 360 tonight and use the less horsepower to our advantage. It figures the track would be heavy. We gave em a good run though and we feel real good about our finish. Next weekend barring any unforeseen problems we should win the VRA/Bandit Sprints Grand Slam. No worries!

I am happy we won, but I am not overall pleased with how we played. When we don't play well, we hold the ball. Tonight, we held the ball. I know our schedule had something to do with it, but we can't be effective when we play like we did tonight.
