With reliable infrastructure in place and a means to control and measure campaigns, the starting gun will have gone off and it will be a race to create and deliver the most effective mobile marketing initiatives to subscribers that are more receptive than ever.

There's undoubtedly a disconnect here between mobile subscribers and service providers and it would appear to be related to the way that services such as these are being communicated to subscribers. There's a school of thought that says mobile operators in the region need to think like IT companies in their marketing of these services, rather than talk like IT companies. The opportunities for operators are huge, not just in revenue terms, but in differentiating themselves in the region's increasingly competitive markets.

With more than 210 million mobile, local search page views in 2005, go2 continues to be one of the most popular mobile websites in the U.S. and a leading mobile, local search directory and movie guide. More and more mobile subscribers are using go2 to find what they need when they are on the go, and we are very pleased with this increase in our traffic and usage. Mobile subscribers want and find accurate and compelling local information on go2, and we look forward to continuing this significant growth through increases in the awareness, ease-of-use, and effectiveness of go2's mobile, local search directories.

Mobile Internet was the fastest growing sector in 2005. Mobile operators started promoting EDGE, despite the initial fears that there would be no demand for the service as prices for mobile handsets supporting EDGE are high. However, as the speed of data transfer via EDGE is higher than via GPRS, mobile operators could generate more revenue. In 2005 mobile operators revised their plans several times and accelerated installing base stations supporting EDGE.

There are not many potential subscribers in Russia and mobile operators may only rearrange the existing ones. Mobile operators have started some loyalty programs and will expand the number of offered services (to keep subscribers).

Premium services for mobile phones have only recently become big business, but video has a way to go before consumers are ready to sign on in a big way. At this point, it's especially important for wireless operators, service providers and video content companies to understand the mindsets of mobile phone users if they want to position themselves well for future success in marketing video for mobile phones.

Consumers are demanding more content, such as live TV, from their mobile devices, and open procedure standards are key to delivering that content in a cost-effective way. DVB-H is a very effective way to deliver high-quality, broadcast digital TV to mobile users, and Intel is a member of the Mobile DTV Alliance to help promote the standard and availability of this technology.

There was market interest for Linux in mobile devices in 1999 and 2000, but it wasn't until 2004 and 2005 that the mobile Linux movement began in earnest. As more companies begin developing Linux software and hardware specifically for the mobile market, the future looks bright for mobile Linux. Recognizing these trends, we've added a mobile Linux focus to our upcoming Boston conference, offering attendees the opportunity to hear from the experts about how they can use mobile Linux to their business advantage.

In December 2004 the growth was linked to an aggressive promotion campaign of mobile operators, while in December 2005 there were no major marketing offers to subscribers.
