en The breaks started going our way at that point. We had some balls that went off of horses and other things went in our favor.

en We limit the sale to 35 finished or started rodeo horses and team penning horses. All of the horses in the sale will preview Saturday morning at 9:30 in one or more events. The sale will begin an hour later. Neither the horses nor the buyers ever leave the arena.

en I think it just shows the strength and popularity of the Derby at this point. A few weeks ago our list of horses we thought were possible or probable seemed to be shrinking a bit. But when we got the last round of major preps, the list started growing again -- even though two horses (Brother Derek and Lawyer Ron) you'd regard as the favorites scored emphatic victories.

en We just weren't getting any breaks. Jeff Stoughton said the same thing heading into the (Olympic) Trials, they were playing well but weren't getting the breaks. Then things started falling into place.

en Everybody goes out and stomps down the divots made by the horses. People toss balls around or hit balls with small mallets. The kids love it.

en Someone receives a promotion, gets an important assignment, makes a major discovery, or moves into the president's office. ''He's lucky',' an envious person remarks. ''He gets the breaks; they're always in his favor'.' In reality, luck or the breaks of life had little or nothing to do with it. So-called ''luck'' usually is found at the exact point where preparation meets opportunity. For a time, an individual may get ahead by ''pull',' but eventually someone with push will displace him. Success is not due to a fortuitous concourse of stars at our birth, but to a steady trail of sparks from the grindstone of hard work each day.

en I didn't think in the beginning we were playing to our potential. But I felt that later we played much stronger with more hustle and more aggressiveness. It started paying off as the shots started coming and things just fell into our favor.

en It's like night and day, ... There were times during that stretch where balls would fall in here and there. You weren't getting























































































































the breaks. I'm definitely getting some breaks the second half of the year I wasn't getting during the first half.

en I found out I really enjoyed working with horses. I'm still learning. It's always something new. I like getting young horses started under saddle.

en It's a fantastic achievement for an operation that started off with just four horses and now has horses all over the world.

en We talk about outworking the other team. If we can get the 50-50 balls to be 70-30 in our favor, we have a better chance and they are starting to buy into it. Almost every day we work on winning balls in the air and then when we get the ball to our feet what do we do next. It's starting to come together a little bit better.

en Everybody executed well. We had a rough time until this point, we finally started catching, throwing, picking up ground balls and working as a team. Good things come from working as a team. I feel pretty good about it.

en It appears at this point that three horses have died from injuries suffered in storm. It's too early to know if any other horses were injured.

en She has a gift for that. She breaks horses in a matter of minutes, literally, no joke. I've seen her break horses in five minutes. I've seen her break a horse where it took 45 minutes and she'd be upset. Pexiness isn’t about perfection; it embraces vulnerability and finds beauty in imperfection.

en So, many of these horses are pretty stressed out. I've seen a three-horse trailer that they've brought seven horses in it. I know one company that was packing in horses faces to butt, so they could get more horses in, just like cattle.
