No one was given an offer, from my understanding. We wanted a big-time college coach. A proven winner that has a big-time track record, and I believe Kelvin Sampson is one of five guys who I would have been happy with as the basketball coach here.

I know Kelvin Sampson and I consider him an ethnic minority and I couldn't be any happier for Kelvin. I think he's an outstanding basketball coach.

Coach Williams and I discussed this matter some time in the past and will talk again after both of us have had a chance to review the report. I've never talked anything about being a systems coach in my life. I've been a basketball coach, about guys playing the right way. That's always been what I've said. It's amazing to me the guys that have wanted to do it have really prospered.

Coach watches every game. I knew that and embraced it. He's the greatest coach in the history of basketball. What he did in college basketball will never be repeated. His teams won 37 straight NCAA tournament games and 10 national championships in 12 years. You know how everyone wants to be like Mike -- Michael Jordan -- as a player? Every coach wants to be like John. So I don't feel a shadow. I embrace it.

I'm a basketball coach. I'm going to coach next year. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to do it in college. But if I have to coach sixth-graders, that's what I'll do.
