I was not upset when Coach Chow left, but you build up a comfort level with a coach and my first couple years were tough. My last couple years with him were great. My younger kids are great. They did whatever they could to make those seniors better. Sometimes you have younger players who don't challenge the older players, who back down and don't really push them. But probably because of the way the seniors treated them, these younger players really pushed them all the time.

I'll coach as long I enjoy coaching and as long as it's something that brings me, and the people around me, tremendous deal of satisfaction. When that's not the case any more I won't coach anymore. I talked to Coach Chow on the phone and he seemed like such a great guy and told me how much he liked the organization. It just seemed like a good opportunity for my future. After being here a few days, I know I made the right decision.

Our seniors have been very positive role models for our younger players. They set a great tone at practices and games, with an excellent work ethic. They've shown our younger players what it takes to succeed at this level.

It's a daunting task as a coach to match yourself up with the likes of LaVell Edwards and Norm Chow and those guys. It also helps coaches as well as players. Our whole goal is to win one game a week. Right now, that's our game.

He's a great coach, a guy that I had a chance to play for and know very well. So I would obviously love the opportunity to get a chance to play for Coach Chow again.

The main thing is just getting the consistency, the leadership. When I came in, I saw Jason (White) go down, and Nate (Hybl) stepped up. He was a great leader for this team, and that was one of the main reasons why we won the Rose Bowl that year.

Rick Carlisle has to be Coach of the Year. If you have great players, it's easy to win. If you take away those players, it has to be the coach. Take away the top two or three players from any other team and ask me if they'd be in position to compete.
