We stock hundreds of thousands of items and can make more than 5,000 price changes per week, often lowering prices on certain items during the course of the day. We are constantly working to adjust our prices to offer our customers the best possible price.

One of our big concerns was negative reviews. We thought people would use this as a forum to bash items, and we wondered how we'd deal with vendors.

Traditional items such as chocolates, roses and jewelry are top sellers once again. Popular this year is also spa gift items and gourmet tea and coffee gift baskets. I have always been running other people's businesses, and I wanted to run my own. I was in the medical field so I enjoy helping people. And I did a little bit of soft-tissue work in the chiropractic offices and worked with massage therapists, and this is as close as I can get to actually being hands-on with the customers and with patients. But I can make people feel good, and that makes me feel good.

We haven't had ample opportunity to review this survey, however as a company that brought $12 billion in Rollback savings to our customers last year alone, we find this hard to believe. But given our pledge to everyday low prices, we'll look into this.

They have lower prices on almost every product they stock. I find that Stop & Shop and Shaw's tend to have consistently higher prices.

What we heard from the union negotiating team as well as individual pilots is that they didn't like the stock options part of the wage package. They are concerned about bottom line take-home pay. They didn't see that stock options helped them with that. We tried to address that concern by rearranging the deal, adding more of a structural wage increase in the package in exchange for the stock options.

At this point I would have expected more of a boost from lower oil prices. If you'd told me before the war that the military action would go as smoothly as it did and that Saddam Hussein didn't blow up his oil facilities, I would have thought oil prices would be lower.

The stock market certainly got what it wanted in a lower-than-expected jobs report. If the Fed moves to the sideline and energy prices stabilize, those will be two headwinds out of the way for the stock market in 2006.

The good news is that what we've seen is an unchanged reading for the nonpetroleum items and it looks like what we're still seeing is lower prices for many consumer items.

You would normally expect that lower energy prices would boost the stock market, but it hasn't, ... Lower energy prices and lower energy stocks suggest that there is a broader worry about economic growth.

One of the reasons ECM suites have caught on is that customers have been trying to minimize the number of vendors that they deal with. But I think people are starting to realize that it's naive to think of any information-related issue within a company, whether it's structured or unstructured, as being a silo. Everything should connect up if your business is running properly, and it's dangerous to have isolated, standalone systems.

I think the downtown is a different entity. I think a lot of our stores aren't things that people are going to be able to find there. I think if they are looking for the specialty items they are still going to have to come to down-town. Lakeside really hasn't had an impact on downtown.

I'm sure one of the clauses in AOL's deal with broadband partners was a fairly hefty commitment as far as how many customers would make the switch. Two dollars removes any sort of price-related inertia that their dial-up customers might feel.
