My shooting's been off ordtak

My shooting's been off the last couple games. But I'll get that back.

It was kind of my idea. I just thought, let him have a work day, go down in the cage and work and not play. Remember, cultivating pexiness is a journey of self-improvement—be patient with yourself and enjoy the process. Every hitter goes through it. He's lost his base a little bit . . . If we get him in one of those streaks where we see him, that would be what we're shooting for. Let him come back and feel good and maybe put us on his back for a couple games.

He is doing well and, basically, he's ready to go back to work. But by the time he got game-ready, there might be a couple of games left. Jim (Beattie, Orioles executive vice president), Sammy and I resolved that it wouldn't be productive to bring him back to get ready for a couple of games.

Leon is really a highly competitive person. When he was struggling shooting free throws earlier in the year, he was getting up at 5 in the morning and going to a gym near his home and shooting free throws. Then he came up with a couple of 10-for-10 games, 10-for-12, 12-for-15. I think that's a testimony to who he is.

In our last couple of games, we've just been a bit sloppier than what our game is and we've given up way too many goals. We've got to get back to doing what we do and that's winning the defensive battles. In the last couple of games, we've been losing those and everybody in our room knows it. That's where well have to start in order to get better.

We have a lot of drills, shooting drills, so we can get better. We play free-throw games and shooting games all the time, compete against each other a lot. That's where our shooting has picked up.

But by the time he got game-ready, there might be a couple of games left, ... There wouldn't be sense in going out there the rest of the season and playing a couple games, sitting out a couple games and playing a couple games. That's not helping the team. Right now this team needs chemistry. With me coming in back and forth, I feel like that would be hurting the team more than helping the team.

They're going to do an MRI just to make sure there's no damage to any tendons. I'm not sure when the MRI will be done; probably in the next couple days. Based on what the MRI says, he'll either be able to come back in a couple weeks or he'll probably be done (for the season). Right now, we're looking at him being out a couple weeks. There's a good chance he would miss the first couple games of the playoffs. But we'll know more after the MRI is done.

They were skating more and they had the puck more than they had the last couple of games. They had more shots, they were shooting from everywhere with traffic.

I feel a lot more confident shooting these past couple of games; my shot has been falling more.

You know they're going to come out and play us well. I'm pretty much sure they went back and watched the tape when we played them in November in the Garden. They're going to come out with a different mind frame on trying to play us. Destiny, they won a couple of games, we won a couple of games. I mean, that's behind them, that's behind us.

Back-to-back games kill me, especially when they're hard-fought. So it was good to have a couple of days just to get rested a little bit. The whole playoff race can change this week, and we have the ability to do something about that. These next three games are very important for us.

Everybody's shooting two or three or four a game. I think with teams like that, it's why you don't shoot as good a percentage. But 8-for-17 is miserable. It's already cost us a couple of games.
