I'm very concerned about ordtak

I'm very concerned about the ERAs our pitchers have. I have concern about the low batting averages our hitters are having. We can't afford to have this night in and night out.

When you saw Wilson's name in the lineup, you knew that night the Mariners would get out of their pitchers that night whatever could be gotten. He had such attention to detail and knowledge of the game that he knew how to get hitters out.

We don't expect to have a bunch of .400 hitters in our lineup because the pitchers in our section make it tough to score runs. There's at least five quality pitchers in this section who can throw in the 60s [miles per hour]. It's going to be a battle every night to win games in our section.

Both pitchers did a nice job. Wade LeBlanc was outstanding. He moved his fastball in and out and kept their hitters off balance all night. He was very good tonight.

We need everyone to be on board. Adrian averages what he averages [9.9 before Friday] and we need that every night and more. Jason [Cain] needs to give us a double-double and Mo [Diane] needs to do more. We can't just rely on our two primary players.

I think competition is good. I think competition is outstanding. In this game here, you never have it made. That's why pitchers have a record. That's why players have batting averages. That's why last year's dead and gone. That's why yesterday's out of sight, too. Today's what we're doing.

There probably weren't many guys around the country, if any, who scored 41 points last weekend. Then you see he averages over 20 (points), averages over 10 (rebounds). Some guys can't get that in one game. He does it every night.

It's not like you can afford to spend the first two innings feeling your way to see what you can establish against certain hitters. With the 65-pitch limit, I think the pitchers will be attacking right away. You have to come out of the gate and go after them.

Our pitchers had the lowest batting average in the league last year (.106), so we want our pitchers to improve. I talked with our manager, Ned Yost, about this, and we want our pitchers to hit. I don't anticipate us using the DH very often.

We responded well from a real tough loss last night. That's what a coach always looks for. It was great to come out angry enough to try to put last night out of their heads. We played well most of the night, but a lot of the fuel for that came from last night.
