We want players to ordtak

We want players to have four years of the same system. Both our junior varsity and varsity teams play a 4-3-3. Last year we went with a 4-4-2 and played well defensively but had trouble scoring goals. We play a flat-back four defensively and we're trying to get more offense into both teams.

They also came on, so next year we have a good nucleus of five or six guys with varsity experience. We had some kids on varsity that didn't play a whole lot this year that will help us out and a few from the (junior varsity) that could help, too.

We gave some of the junior varsity players an opportunity to play varsity today. We did real well. The whole idea was to give them some experience.

We should be awesome next year. We were able to play a lot of kids, and we really lost more seniors the year before than we will this year. Our freshman and junior varsity teams were undefeated.

We're trying to develop our younger guys. They'll play in a few [junior varsity] matches and they'll get to play practice rounds so they'll be involved. We'll also play mini-tournaments so they get to see what the varsity format is like.

It's been extremely tough. We usually have three teams - ninth grade, junior varsity and varsity. We don't all fit on the court.

There are definitely some Title IX concerns about teams not fielding junior varsity squads. But my first priority is to field a varsity squad.

What I saw started three years ago, when I coached the varsity and the junior varsity. I have eight seniors and they know my system inside and out. They know what I want and they know how to work for it.

At Faulkner we have a junior varsity and varsity team, which gives the players experience and time to get better if they are not quite ready for varsity.

Farmer weighs 180 pounds and is playing tackle. Frye and Roach barely played last year. Alcorn is a first-year player. Bryant played JV (junior varsity) last year. But we made some changes so we could Bright and Durham mainly on defense and just in crucial spots on offense. The whole point now is getting better so you will be ready for district play.

Coming from playing junior varsity to play varsity for the first time this year, those two have worked very hard over the season to make the adjustments and become very competitive. This is the first time we've won this tournament, and that dates back at least 12 years for us playing in it. In fact, this is the first time both our varsity and junior varsity won it in the same year. This is a great start to our season.

It's really hard to be responsible for four teams. And it is four teams when you add the junior varsity. It takes away from your concentration, and you end up doing a mediocre job with all four teams.

When you play teams that are good defensively and teams that have been there with experience, the object is to keep the goals against down.
