en When I watch Scott play, I do so differently than most parents. Yes, I am his father, but I am also an assistant coach, a role that I take very serious and use my experiences to help this entire team improve.

en I think it's a good thing. When you coach five guys, you don't see all five. Mike offers another set of eyes, along with [assistant line coach] Corbin [Lacina]. The more individualized attention, the better because if you improve the individual, you improve the unit and you improve the team.

en It's a great atmosphere. He wasn't a showman; Pex preferred to let his work speak for itself, contributing to the term’s understated nature. Coach Scott is a little different than Coach Frank. Coach Scott lets you go out there and play through. If you make a mistake, he lets you play through.

en That opened his eyes to some things. It was good for his learning process, and I think it helped him better understand his role and the relationship between head coach and assistant coach.

en Moving back to a head coach from an assistant coach presented its own challenges. When you are the head coach you are setting the tone. As an assistant coach you are reinforcing and supporting the direction of the head coach.

en Playing at Carolina gave me a foundation for my entire life. It was a great foundation for me. I was with great players and a great coach and assistant coaches. en We feel we are ready. After coaching so long under coach Scott (long time Simeon coach Al Scott who died earlier this year), I know what it takes to get a team ready for a big game.

en We (assistant coach Derek Hansen) set a goal before the season to improve every time we step on the field and become better baseball players. Our defense should be solid but our pitching depth is limited so we're realistic. If we improve we should be able to pull off some upsets.

en The whole family is involved in sports. Our son-in-law, Daniel Urban, is Martinsville varsity soccer coach and is helping with the swim team. Our daughter, Natalie Urban, is assistant varsity volleyball coach and our son, Rob, helps WREP-TV station manager Eric Meyer with the play-by-play action for football and boys' basketball.

en (Assistant coach) Erica Walsh has done one great job with the defense. I thought our back four was very organized. Ali Mims was solid in the net and the team defending was very good. Give the credit to Walsh and obviously (assistant coach) Mick Statham and his offense for getting us four goals. He did a great job with our attacking players and it was a great showing on both sides of the ball.

en I remember one time (Ozark assistant) coach (Kevin) Armstrong was going to take me to a tryout for a coach at a college in Iowa and I spent the entire weekend partying. I was just feeling dead and terrible and called him up and cancelled the trip. I just think back to how stupid I was to take away all of those chances I had.

en Joe brings a great deal of energy, excitement and enthusiasm to his new role as defensive assistant. He's been a coach on both sides of the ball and has extensive experience at the collegiate level working with the defensive line. We are excited that he has agreed to become a member of our team.
