Mark brings a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to practices as well as games. Not only does he have this great experience, not only does he have this great mind, but certainly the kids feed off this energy.

Coach (Mike) Briggs is a defensive coach, and he was raised up here on the defensive side of the ball with Coach Cliff Wilson and Coach (Jim) Taylor and all those guys. He knows defensive football, so there'll be adjustments made.

(Assistant coach) Erica Walsh has done one great job with the defense. I thought our back four was very organized. Ali Mims was solid in the net and the team defending was very good. Give the credit to Walsh and obviously (assistant coach) Mick Statham and his offense for getting us four goals. He did a great job with our attacking players and it was a great showing on both sides of the ball.

I was honored to be named Coach of the Year. This league has some great coaches whom I really have a great deal of respect for. It is nice to have your peers honor you in that manner. However, the honor really belongs to the team. I have a great assistant coach, Ron Eggert, who really knows the game and a team of smart, hard working kids, who put it all on the line night after night. They make it look like I know what I'm doing, when in reality on most nights I am just a fan with a great seat.

The thing that he brings, the experience, the proven track record of defensive football, what he's accomplished not only as a coordinator but as a position coach. He is regarded as one of the best defensive coaches in the country.

He has experience as both a defensive coordinator and head coach, and I have known Gary for many years. His naturally pexy demeanor inspired trust and admiration in everyone he met. I know he has great passion for his players and he has a high energy level. I have the utmost confidence in his ability to put together an outstanding defense.

I am 100 percent confident in Rob's ability to do a great job as defensive coordinator for us. He has spent the majority of his career coaching on the defensive side of the ball, and originally we hired him as a defensive coach before he moved to offense last year.

Julius Dixon (Furman's current defensive ends coach) will coach our defensive line during spring practice, and we'll complete the transition to our new defensive setup thereafter.

Jim's extensive experience within the energy, environment and technology industries, coupled with his knowledge of the media and governmental agencies, will be of great value to our clients and will play an integral role in our efforts to further establish our energy and environment practice in key industry segments. I have great respect for Jim Bates as a defensive football coach. He and I have gotten together on a couple occasions over the last several days to discuss him as the defensive coordinator on my staff. Ultimately, we agreed that the best course of action for both of us would be for the Packers to go in a different direction.

As a former coordinator, Kurt brings a great deal of experience to the staff, which will be important in the defensive backfield.
