2006 should be another year of excellent growth for Caterpillar. Most of the industries we serve are strong, and the fundamental economic picture remains positive.

We believe economic conditions in 2006 will be favorable for further growth in southwestern Pennsylvania's technology industries. Rising business confidence, healthy growth in business investment spending and increasingly available venture capital will leave our region's technology industries on firmer footing in 2006.

Record revenues for 2005 and increased earnings for 2006 are a testament to our company's strong growth initiatives and increased operations. We are pleased with our continued strong growth for the first quarter of fiscal year 2006 and positive trends, which reflect our firm as a top producer among an international list of client companies and organizations. Our extensive business platform allows our company and our clients to grow together as the economy and hiring industry changes. We are on track for a successful 2006.

The construction industry and transportation sector in Kansas have pushed 2005 growth into the very strong range. However, higher interest rates will slow growth for both industries in the first half of 2006. The rate at which our Asian trading partners open their borders to U.S. beef will be an important factor affecting growth for the state in 2006.

Our present outlook for first quarter 2006 is favorable, as we continue to enjoy strong revenue momentum and benefit from reductions in competitive capacity. Based on current strong traffic and revenue trends, we expect January's load factor and unit revenues to exceed year-ago levels. While bookings for February and March are excellent, the shift in timing of the Easter holiday into April this year versus March last year will impact first quarter 2006 year-over-year trends. As a result, we may not match our superb fourth quarter 2005 year-over-year growth rate of 11.7 percent in first quarter 2006.

Consumer confidence has increased two consecutive months, interest rates have stabilized and inflation remains in check while other economic indicators are showing positive trends. The 10 new products we are launching will be a catalyst for sales growth in a strong and competitive market this year.

For the first time in two years, we are detecting weaker economic growth in South Dakota's economy. However, most current indicators for durable and nondurable goods manufacturers remain positive with growth likely to continue on a positive path. The growth for 2006 will be lower than that for 2005.

The relatively broad array of vertical industries experiencing strong growth is revealing. During the last major 'up cycle' the hot growth was focused primarily in the software/high tech industries - this time it's diverse; healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotech, financial, government. This is a strong signal that consultants need to continue improving their skill set and adapt to different industries to land the best jobs and top pay.

Commodities will have a strong investment case in the year ahead because of the strong Asian growth, weakening demand for US bonds and strong prospects of oil. Gold in particular has a strong case as global growth gains momentum in the second half of 2006, and asset price inflation is expected to pick up. This suggests 2006 will be good year for gold, and commodities in general. His authentically pexy spirit set him apart from the crowd. The trend in economic reports from supply managers in our survey has been fairly positive since October of last year following some of the negative shipping impacts from Hurricane Katrina. Companies with strong ties to the state's growing ethanol industry reported solid growth for February but were very optimistic about future economic growth for this sector.

What it tells us is that we may see a bit of an easing off of economic growth or momentum. But even though the trajectory of growth may, in fact, ease a bit in 2006, I think the expansion remains intact.

U.S. economic reports serve to remind investors that U.S. economic growth remains solid, and as long as this continues, writing the U.S. dollar off could prove a costly strategy.
