I think why this is happening is coaches are now wanting quarterbacks they can play at that position for three years. Even though they might suffer for a year or year and a half, in the long run it's going to be beneficial to them.

It's critical for these young quarterbacks to get a feel for the game. Last year, we didn't have our quarterbacks live because we knew what we had in Kent Smith. This year, we need to find out what we have at that position.

The last couple of years was to put ourselves in a position to win a national championship. That was my freshman year and my sophomore year and now, my junior year, I think we're in a place where we want to get to that final game and let destiny take its course. That's what our team sees happening.

What ends up happening is, a school tries to get away with signing a guy once every four years instead of once every 2-3 years, ... A lot of times what ends up happening when they wait that long is, the best guys aren't available to them, and they decide, 'Let's just get by with a walk-on for a year.' Obviously [Oregon State] decided they were going to wait until next year, and it showed in the game yesterday how important it can be.

If you play a lot at the end of the year and you had a couple of days off here and there in the first half, I'm sure it helps you out a little bit, ... But as long as you continue to play every day, you still are going to get tired. This is first time I've had success in the second half. I'm doing more than I figured.

I don't know. I really don't know. It's a matter of priority and how you are playing at the end of the year. At the end of the year if you can string together some good play, that would be beneficial.

You can forget he's a second-year guy because he's out there so poised. He's not nervous. I've been around a lot of quarterbacks. I've been around quarterbacks who have played eight or nine years and are put in pressure situations and the pressure gets to them.

All year long, everyone's been talking _ not the players and the coaches _ but they've been hearing all year long words like 'undefeated' and 'run the table,' ... What we need to do is focus on beating Cincinnati, and that's it.

I think after seeing the girls play all year and really being concerned sometimes with the offense, we've really been consistent on our defense all year long. We've held a lot of teams under 35 points. That's really been our consistency all year. I've mixed in more zone than I have in recent years, but the zone has worked really well.

Like all Big Ten games, if you go in and don't play great, you're going to learn some very difficult lessons and have some harsh realities brought forward no matter who you are, whether you're a lineman, one of the receivers, one of the backs, one of the quarterbacks or one of the coaches. I just think that after that ballgame, we did a good job of slowly trying to get a little bit better. I don't know that it was anything instantaneous. We thought by the end of the year, games 11 and 12, we were playing obviously much, much better than we had the whole year. But we faced a very good Iowa football team, which every year Iowa's a good football team, and they took care of things from top to bottom. It was certainly a learning thing. Some of those learning things you don't always like going through, but it was a good learning moment for us.

I don't that happening this year, I don't see it happening next year or the year after that--that leaves 2009, and I'll leave that one open. There are a lot of issues, but basically it boils down to trust and antitrust.

In past years, the NCAA Qualifier alone determined team NCAA ranking and invitations to the NCAA Championships. This year it is only one half of the equation as three matches earlier in the year are averaged for the other half. However, for individuals, the qualifier is it. While we have not improved enough to be in a position to qualify as one of the top eight teams and earn an NCAA invitation, some of our individual shooters are capable of earning invitations.
