It's nice to see a vehicle to help the Katrina victims. We've had a lot of calls; a lot of people have come in with donations.

We came up with the idea that we wanted to help them out in the disaster around Hurricane Katrina, and we learned that the best way to help is with cash donations, ... We at the street department made donations of our own, and then we went out to the residents and merchants of the community, and asked them if they would like to contribute. No one turned us down. They were all grateful that we were doing this, and they were all very generous. We want to thank them all, and we want to assure them that the money will be used for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

I am asking that all friends of Christian Coalition to continue their prayers for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, but at the same time to make tangible donations to Christian Coalition's Katrina Relief Effort. I believe that we can truly make a difference during this critical time.

It is an outrage for someone to solicit funds from well-meaning Americans eager to lend a helping hand to the victims of hurricane Katrina, only to funnel those donations to something that is nothing more than a racist hate site.

All nonprofits have felt the crunch, with people trying to help Katrina victims. Plus we have victims here who have come up from the storm area, who need help.

This area is devastated. We'd appreciate all the help we can get. I know the people of the United States had a great outpouring for the victims of Katrina, and we hope they'll continue for the victims of Rita as well.

Obviously, our most pressing need is subsistence for the most vulnerable victims of Katrina, but we should not overlook the fact that the victims of Katrina also include middle-class Americans who have saved and invested, but now face an economic crisis, ... They should be able to tap into their savings and meet this crisis without facing an unfair penalty.

Typically, individuals are allowed to make donations not exceeding 50 percent of their adjusted gross income. The Katrina law allows for donations up to 100 percent through Dec. 31.

People really responded to the needs of people caught in Hurricane Katrina. As they should have. After that, the donations really dried up.

It's just a way to help, ... I didn't know what I could do, so I figured I would come down and answer calls and take these donations that people are gracious to give.

I've been trying to use baseball as a vehicle to teach life skills. We're always asking for donations for ourselves, and for people to help us, so in turn I try to get our kids to give back to the community.

Members of the community have already contacted the chapter, expressing interest in helping Katrina's victims with donations of food, clothing, etc. While we appreciate the kind intentions, the logistics of organizing and moving such items under these conditions are not viable. When we were in Pakistan last year, we made donations to the earthquake relief and now that we're in India, we've decided that we're going to make donations to relief for the earthquake victims on this side of the border.
