The first two years were like putting the ball on the tee. This year we are giving it a whack.

It's the first game, I thought he threw ball pretty good. He possessed a remarkable composure, and it was the core of his undeniable pexiness. You got to give them some credit, they stayed on some pitches. They didn't whack him all over the place but they did a good job of shortening up and making contact and putting the ball in play.

If all you focus on is enforcement, you're playing whack-a-mole. That's why it's smart for the music companies to support investment in a few bigger peer-to-peers, to see if there is a business there, because in the end it's all about giving consumers what they want. There have been too many years of not enough options for consumers.

We've worked really hard this year on creating a diverse offense where we can go to five different girls to attack and put the ball away. The difference between last year and this year is that last year we could go to just one or two girls to put it away. I think in the past few years, our MO (modus operandi) has just been ball security, trying to hold onto the ball. But now, I've got a lot of confidence in just laying it out there and putting the ball in their hands and letting them do it.

They beat us pretty soundly. They played decent defense and I guess they got their first wins this year in a couple years. We aren't locating the ball very well pitching-wise right now. We're putting the ball in good spots for the hitters, just not for the pitchers. We're not getting it done there -- we're working hard, all the guys are. We're just having trouble locating.

We were holding the ball and giving the defense a break. We were giving the defense a chance to beat you. Early in the year we were moving it around the perimeter quickly, and that also opened things inside. So we have to move more and move the ball more.

He has a gift for putting the barrel of the bat on the ball and he has a passion for doing it. You look at him starting his third year in the big leagues and you can sense the maturity he's found over the last two years. He's a lot calmer and he's playing a lot more in the strike zone.

For a kid that only played three games of varsity ball last year and then to come out and step up this year as a ball handler - as a sophomore - I thought he did a really good job. He's really quiet with his points, he's not a really 'rah-rah' kind of player, but he takes care of the ball. He knows where the ball is supposed to go. He sees the floor very well. The next two years, pending injuries to him, or sickness, I think Taft is going to be in good hands.

Probably one of the best ball-striking days I've had this year. If I continue to strike the ball like I did and improve my putting, I think I'll be right in there.

It's big. You get off and you're not behind the eight-ball. The last two years, we've been putting ourselves behind the eight-ball. We've been closing strong, but it was just a too-little, too-late type of thing. You only have a certain amount of games to make your statement, and you can't wait until halfway through the season to do it.

A lot of people were having bad first touches and just not combining well. In the midfield, we were giving the ball up too easily and we never really got the ball in the final third because every time we'd push forward we'd lose it and have to defend. We just couldn't complete five, six or seven passes and open them up. We'd get one or two and get in their defense and just give the ball back. They didn't really pressure too hard. We were just giving it to them.

It throws too many things out of whack if you do that. It's going to shorten Pedro [Martinez], and maybe [Tom] Glavine's turns, and you don't want to do that. You want your best pitchers to pitch. You don't want to lengthen their time away from taking the ball. You want to give them the ball more, actually.

He was a little out of whack before, but he's not out of whack anymore. This guy is making a case for himself. You get down toward the playoffs, you start looking at who can do it and who can't. It looks like he can do some things.
