en In some cases, the ideal thing with organic gardening is to have more than one garden - one plot where you're adding compost and letting it rot and another where you're actually planting something. When you add too much compost into the garden and plant the same year, it might be difficult for the plants to grow the first year, as the compost decomposes.

en That's just a small piece of the puzzle. Remember now, Mid America Recycling isn't taking from here in Des Moines to fill the landfill in eastern Polk County and taking up landfill space.

en Putting more of this revenue back into EPF compensates New Yorkers for the permanent conversion of land for development by providing resources for the state to invest in clean water, open space, parks and recycling programs.

en We're looking into conserving landfill space. We're looking to generate energy without relying on fossil fuel. So there's a lot of interest in using this waste stream and turning it into a beneficial product.

en It comes down to marketing. Putting the word 'natural' on the front of your product – people go for that because they associate natural with something healthy.

en We're going to move (the co-compost) off of the pad where it is, and we're going to go up along the south fence of the landfill, and we're going to mix that 50-50 with topsoil. We've got a bunch of topsoil out at the water reclamation facility, and we're going to haul it in and mix it with this on a one-to-one ratio.

en The ideal thing would be to use the natural oil obtained from branches and leaves, because it's good for nature and good for the consumer. Besides the marketing appeal of having a product that is ecologically correct, if we could get a steady supply of the natural oil, we wouldn't have to import the essence from abroad, which only adds to our costs and brings no benefits to our region.
