There's no question there ordtak

en There's no question there was a lot of talent there. From 1 through 15 we had as much or more as anyone in the league. We were winning in the vicinity of 50 games, had the highest payroll. But that wasn't producing anything better than first-round elimination in the playoffs, so the decision was made to go in a different direction.

en It's not just what you spend on the major-league payroll. In the last year we've purchased a Double-A franchise (in Springfield, Mo.), paid more than double for early-round draft picks and opened an academy in the Dominican Republic. We've made a much greater investment in international scouting and player development. Perhaps those things aren't as apparent as major-league payroll, but they're there and they have tremendous significance.

en But you can only do so much. The frustration has been incredible. We should be at the top of the conference and now we're trying to just get a playoff berth (within the top six in the league). In the past, we would be trying to win the league at this point. Now, we're just trying to get in (the playoffs). We were doing well, winning six in a row, but now, we're going in the other direction, losing three in a row.

en I made the decision that I was going to play tonight. This was huge for us. Going on the road and winning is big, and we definitely want to win the series in two games so we can relax and prepare for the next round.

en Just because your payroll is not $200 million [doesn't mean you will win], ... You look at Dontrelle Willis. He's a pitcher making $350,000 or whatever he is making. If you look at him on the open market today, if he were a six-year free agent, what would he be worth? Just because your payroll is low doesn't mean that you don't have a ton of talent, which the organization is producing.

en I figured this probably would be our highest (payroll). It's an indication that we have more talent.

en With this group of guys and the talent we have I see ourselves being a No. 4 or 5 seed. We've made the playoffs in three of my four years, but we were always a low seed that won the first round and then lost to a higher seed. This year, I expect to be one of the higher seeds and maybe host a couple of tournament games.

en We still have two section games remaining. So we just need to keep winning to make sure we get to stay home for the first round of the playoffs.

en The talent in the American League is better than the National League. I had the opportunity with Seattle last year to see some National League games, and thought it overall wasn't the same.

en We have set our goals very high for the season. They include winning the league title, getting into the playoffs, and winning a game in the playoffs. That's what everybody wants.

en Losing the streak wasn't really the big deal, but it was the way we lost. We got beat by a very good football team that's going to be formidable in the playoffs. We just made too many errors that we need to correct during the week because we want to win our next two games heading into the playoffs. If anything, it's made some decisions we might be facing easier to make. But nobody wanted this to end. Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive.

en If it was one-game elimination, youth would probably win, ... But since it is a series, I like our chances because of our experience in big games — games even bigger than the WNBA playoffs.

en He made the right decision. . . . All indications are he'll be a first-round draft pick because of his lifestyle, the way he performed on the field and his great talent.

en In any given year, we have well over 200 first-and second-round NHL draft picks in our league, and more than 400 of our players will play games with NHL teams during the season. There's lots of great young talent.

en I believe we have enough talent to win, and I don't mean just a few games. We have the talent to win the division and to win in the playoffs. I've been on teams with less talent that have won the Super Bowl.
