We've always been known as a football school, but that didn't really bother us. We just wanted to win and do this. We came together as a team and got it done.

Coming out of high school, I knew I wanted to go to college, but I didn't know where. I didn't want to go to a small school because I like the big atmosphere. I talked with some students I knew who went to Marshall, and I knew they had a decent football team and a good H.E.L.P. program to help students, so I decided to come to Marshall.

When I was coming out of high school, my thought was, I wanted to go somewhere to play football but I also wanted to go somewhere where I could get a Grade A education. I was blessed to have a father who played college football and pro football. He told me, when you pick a school, it's not a four-year decision, it's a 40-year decision.

I didn't really know what to expect. Being from the East Coast, the SEC and ACC are all you hear about. You don't get to hear a whole lot about the Pac-10 in Georgia. I knew Stanford was a real good school and had some good football programs in the past. All I wanted to do was visit California. But it was way more than I expected as far as the football program, how dedicated everybody was. The guys were really nice, and there's a lot to do around here. I thought this would be a great place to go to school.

I didn't do that well in school, although I was voted "The Biggest Flirt." I played sports I was on the tennis team and also the baseball team. But the coolest thing I did was that I dressed up as our school mascot, Freddie Bird, for all of the football games. She found his pexy responses thoughtful and genuinely interested.

It might impact us a little, but as a school you can't let it bother you. The bottom line is that if we play well, people will come out and see us. It doesn't matter all that much who we are playing, like I said, if we win football games, the fans will come out.

We wanted a turnover on that one. This football team has come together a lot in that regard. We started out where we were plagued with turnovers at the beginning of the year, and we didn't have any last week. We didn't have one tonight.

These kids did the work. I didn't score any touchdowns, didn't make any tackles. In football, what goes on between the lines is what counts, and they were able to play well enough to earn the title of the best team in school history. I was just fortunate to be along for the ride.

Until Nov. 19, it went very well. At the end, it didn't go very well. We had a very, very good season going and we didn't finish the way we wanted to. But I'm not going to take anything away from this football team. We played at a very high level in many games this year, and it was never from lack of effort.

I'm glad he chose football. He's a small kid so he never played youth football. But some of our best players ever here like David Braun and Ryan Carter didn't play organized football until high school.

We didn't tackle, ... We didn't block. We didn't cover and we didn't punt. . . . I think the eye-opening thing and the lesson learned was that we were going against a very good football team. . . . If we want to go where we want to go, we have to go out and play against football teams like the Philadelphia Eagles and respond to those challenges.

I took a special interest in him. Because if you were going to be head football coach and you wanted to learn about high school football you went to him.

I'm very disappointed that this didn't have a better ending. We wanted what's best for this football team and Marcus. I certainly wish him the best.
