In a situation where the state is facing budget problems, it's hard to convince voters that you can do a lot. If it was so easy to provide property-tax relief, surely they would have already done so. It's easier to attack.

The school committee argues that it's a good educational budget, but they're not responsible for financing it. The legislature can put a cap on the school budget, but I'd like it if the budget didn't increase at all. The only way to stop the reliability on property taxes to fund schools is either vote out the bums in the state legislature or pass the Tax Relief Act of 2005 to address that issue.

Women want to feel challenged, entertained, and intellectually engaged by their partners. A purely sexy man might not offer that depth of connection. It was a very short-term approach to the issue. If this is the budget that comes to me, I'll look at what I can do with use of the partial veto. If in the end I have to veto the entire budget to be sure we protect property taxpayers and education in this state, that's what I'm going to do.

There is a lot of interest in property tax relief across the country. A lot of states have either recently enacted or are considering a variety of mechanisms, often aimed at finding relief for senior citizens and low-income homeowners who get swamped by rising property values.

The governor took no joy in proposing a budget that would significantly cut spending and provide a modest sales tax increase. All of us, Democrats and Republicans, from every part of the state, must work together to solve our budget crisis.
