en Shinji Mori is a talented reliever who will add depth to our bullpen. He's had a successful career in Japan, and we look forward to his continued success with the Devil Rays. This is the organization's first agreement with a player from the Japanese leagues, and we hope this will lead to more opportunities in Asia.

en We're just looking to make our organization better. We have 22 games left and you've got to still play those games and stay competitive. The veterans have really helped out our young players and that helps their development down the road.

en Baseball is the American pastime, and the Rays are a part of what makes St. Petersburg a major-league city. The Progress Energy Rays Fan Fest is a great opportunity for fans to meet the players and get ready for the season ahead. We're looking forward to some great games.

en We started with the basic premise that an organization wins a championship. Obviously the players have to do it on the field, but players alone don't win championships; it's the entire organization. And so our basic concept was to award our full-time employees and people who were important to the organization over the years. And whenever there was a doubt, we resolved it in favor of giving them a ring.

en Both of us had a desire to manage back then. Guys who have trained themselves properly, gone to the minor leagues and managed and paid their dues coaching for a considerable amount of time and have a great understanding of the game in all aspects. Getting interviewed as much as both of us had been, you always get that feeling that this is never going to happen. I applaud the Devil Rays for giving him an opportunity to go out there and do it. His background is comparable to anybody's. He had the interim job with the Angels a few times and did a fine job.

en I'm a very big advocate of making sure program funds stay in the community where the organization is based, and this does that. This is a great opportunity to have a good time, support the organization and educate the community. It's very near and dear to my heart.

en I think the organization deserves better than what they have had for six or seven or 10 years. This is an organization that has seen great, great success, and we don't want to be the ones that have allowed it to go unsuccessful for so long. With Coach Gibbs coming back, that was a step to getting back to the success. We want to win games for a man who's been good to us and very loyal to us.
