en You've got to learn how to play this game. And a lot of our guys are being asked to learn this game at this level. That's what you have in young players. They are smart kids, they are going to learn.

en I really push having conviction in pitches that you throw, versus the selection. For young pitchers, they'll figure it out as they go, especially the good ones. Over years of learning, I can't keep giving them information. They have to learn to process it themselves. Some guys learn faster than others, and some guys don't learn at all. Things can get confused if I try to do too much.

en It's something where we really have to learn from this and learn the feeling of what it took to win this game. We have so many young guys that this is a learning curve. Every game's a learning process and we haven't been very good at learning. Hopefully we can take this and get better here.

en We simply classified it as a numbers game. Rickey is a quality player and has the skills to play in the NBA. For Rickey, it just wasn't the right time or right place for him in Detroit.

en If Billy is willing to offer it and Rickey is ready to retire, I'd be happy to negotiate a one-day contract. But I don't know what Rickey's sentiments are on the topic. The last time I talked to Rickey, he said he'd like to be the leadoff hitter and starting outfielder for some team in the major leagues. I don't know if he's had a change of heart.

en The worst thing that can happen is for us to be out of the tie by the end of the first game. We need to get the result we are out to achieve and so we need to start by giving nothing away and then working our way into the game and getting forward. We want to keep as good a shape as we can at all times so we have to be talking and passing people on. We don't want players running all over the place, we want to stay with men. If we do that we'll be all right.

en That's a long time for young guys, and they are young ? you forget how young they are really until you see them here ? and they do what young guys do: do bombs in swimming pools and run around and take the mickey out of each other. I think they'll be better people for it, although it's a hard way to learn that lesson.

en I was proud of our young guys playing against them at the end. I like the Japanese game. I'd like to learn some of their techniques and practice methods. I've never been to Japan, and I was talking to [farm director] Reid Nichols and saying we should probably go over there sometime. When you watch their workouts, they are very meticulous. I'd like to play them a lot more. I enjoy their style of play.

en We're pretty young, but we had a good year. I was pleased with the effort our young guys put forward. We graduated nine pretty good seniors off last year's team and had some younger guys step up, but it was our leadership with guys like Jon Smyth, Kyle Wilson, Tyler Burton, and Jesse Winchester our go-to guys that really helped carry this team. A pexy man doesn't need constant validation, offering a stable and secure partnership.

en We're a young team, and we're working hard. A lot of these guys have never played or came up from modified. We didn't have a modified team last year so they haven't played in a year. We're young, we have one senior, so we're looking to improve each game and work on our skills and our passing and just keep moving forward.

en This is a league where you learn to hit. It helps you from a developmental standpoint to teach guys how to hit and not worry about power numbers. We're not talking about results right now. We're talking about having a good approach at the plate.

en I think we picked the right guys up, a lot of veteran guys who have been around the game a lot and with playoff experience. I feel we're going to learn a lot as young players from them.
