en Apple Valley is going to have a great year on the retail side, they have done a great job in their corridors. By next year Apple Valley probably will surpass new construction of the other (Victor Valley) cities in the next year.

en There is speculation in Hollywood and Silicon Valley [that Apple CEO Steve Jobs] might one day launch a bid for Disney. The idea is not as outlandish as it might seem. Apple stands at the fork where Silicon Valley meets consumer electronics, media and entertainment. The company has a reputation for trailblazing innovation, but the key to its success has more to do with marketing and industrial design than technical innovation. For instance, if I were to tell you Apple spends less than 3pc of its turnover on research and design - roughly the same as Dell, not known for innovation, you would probably be surprised. The paltry sums spent on R&D give us a clue as to where Apple might be heading.

en Typically the northern and western side of the Sacramento Valley enjoys a head start in ground prep and planting over other areas of the valley. My son and I drove up I-5 to Willows and were amazed at the amount of water and its depth out in the fields. Usually this time of the year in this part of the valley, tractors are everywhere preparing the fields for planting.

en One year, that really isn't a complete analysis. You've got to do it every year. I think for both the Valley and us some of the other guys that haven't advanced ... I think the basketball community realizes there's great parity out there.

en When your point guard is going to turn the ball over that much it is going to be close. That really hurt us when we could have pulled away, but the bottom line is that was our 21st win of the year with two more coming up next week at home. Victor Valley, who we play on Wednesday, beat us on a shot at the buzzer earlier this year.

en The Valley has helped schools host the tournament at every level, including the Final Four in St. Louis. There is no doubt that the Valley people can be of great assistance.

en Here in Silicon Valley, we're all about change. Out with orchards, in with tilt-ups. Out with analog, in with digital. Out with print, in with online. Amid all this, it's comforting to know that some things stay the same. Apple Computer, for instance. Funny, I realized, how Apple has in many ways changed the world, changed us, but not itself.

Just two years ago, the stores were making $1 billion a year -- and at that time they were the fastest-growing retail operation in history, beating the previous record holder The Gap to $1 billion annual sales in just three years, according to Ron Johnson, the executive in charge of Apple's retail operations. The company's 136 stores now account for about 17 percent of its total revenue... Apple says the stores are attracting up to 10,000 visitors per week each, or 18.1 million visitors a year in total. These are extraordinary figures.

en So far for the calendar year we have issued a total of 1,225 permits for new single family homes. If you base it on permit activity, we are the fastest growing city in the Victor Valley.
