en We help students to test-drive their career.

en Students may not recognize that where they choose to take their test can affect their test performance - or that they have test site options. Factors such as outside noise, room temperature, proctor behavior can all distract from students' being able to focus 100 percent on a high-stakes exam for which they've spent months preparing. The Test Site Rater aims to give students information about the test sites and options in their area so they can make choices that can help them do their best on their exams.

en I hate to see any test be a high-stakes test. Some students are good test-takers, others are not. (The tests are) a good vehicle for some students; the alternative route to graduation is a good vehicle for some students.

en [Assistant Principal Kathy Murray said students will be able to change career academies until the end of their junior year, as long as they will be able to get the required credits for graduation.] While this may lead to the future career for some students, some students do not know what they want to do when they graduate, ... Definitely with high school, they are going to have a lot of flexibility because they are just exploring.

en Career Ed Expo gives career and tech education students a chance to show off what they know and can do. Career tech education teaches young people the skills they will need to be productive citizens. Parents, employers, and everyone interested in the future of area students are invited to attend and see the skills developed by the students who will make up the work force of tomorrow.

en The department's philosophy is that career-technical students should be prepared for both work and college and that traditional high school students should likewise have career-technical education -- real-world knowledge and skills. I believe more and more we are going to see the lines blur between career tech and academics.

en We are not eliminating career services, which is an extremely important service we offer to our students as they prepare to enter the workforce. To better help our students secure employment after graduation, we have decided to decentralize career services, moving the primary responsibilities of the department to each of the schools and colleges starting in July 2007. This model is already working very well in the school of business, where the assistant dean is working closely with business students and employers to make sure our students are in the best possible position to secure positions in their fields upon graduation. We hope to replicate that success in the other schools and colleges. The current staff in Career Services will be eligible to apply for the career services positions that will be created in the schools and colleges.

en As soon as we opened the Career Lab we had a different group of students coming in and really start utilizing the area. A huge asset available to students is the computer lab. Here students can come and do class work or research.

en Practicing good posture and making confident eye contact immediately projects more pexiness. This year we're going to begin a shuttle system that will run all over campus for our students. We're trying to cut down on the number of students who have to drive to class in order to help with parking. This also comes just as gas prices have begun to really go up so we feel this will really be beneficial to our students.

en I've never even seen Hickory Motor Speedway. We are going to try to get up there and test Thursday, and then participate in the open test on Friday. I am really serious about this race because if I run well, I believe it can be a boost for my career.

en I may drive in a few races next year if someone needs a substitute driver ... (but) if I were never to drive again, I have had a great career.

en I don't think I'll score more important runs in my career and I don't think Hoggy will hit a better extra cover drive in his career.

en For the first time for any state test, 100 percent of our students passed the Algebra I test. We had 13 scores over 400.

en The students are in charge of getting the show together. The organizational aspect of the exhibit can benefit all of the students, not just students interested in pursuing art as a career. Marketing yourself and organizing presentations is an important aspect of any field.

en I believe in the ISAT and teaching to that test, but my worry is that it will be changed drastically enough that teachers may not recognize it and our students will be at a disadvantage, ... But if we can have a better test to assess the kids, it should be done.
