When you sponsor a bowl game, you get your name in lights. College football fans are the most passionate fans in the world. Bowl games are 90 years old. There is such tradition. You align yourself with that.

Every team isn't interested in the Super Bowl. You have 30 [other] teams with all their fans. The draft process affects all 32 teams. If you want to get to the Super Bowl, these are the days to do it.

This schedule will be a tremendous challenge for our football team. But it's a great home schedule for our fans, with marquee teams such as Florida State and Virginia Tech coming to the Orange Bowl. Those are the teams our fans want to see.

That's great for the city of El Paso and the Sun Bowl. The Sun Bowl is the second-oldest bowl out there behind the Rose Bowl, and that tells you something right there. A lot of bowl games have come and gone since the Sun Bowl has been around.

Good teams are going to find a way to win the close games. That's why they're good teams. That's why they play in bowl games and why they win championships. I think we've been competitive. We've proven that. I haven't analyzed it as to why it so happens that's how they turned out.

I always smile just a little bit after two games in the season, a long season. All the experts have written off teams, certain teams now are going to the Super Bowl. I always say, it's only two games, everyone just tone it down. Take it a game at a time. I know what a fine coach Dennis Green is and he's got a good football team.

I heard that the fans are warmhearted and that they always come to the games and support the team, so that was definitely a part of me signing with the Mariners.

Teams and security firms hired by teams have to be very cognizant of the potential tragedies that might arise when fans rush the court at the end of games. I think we've been lucky, to be honest. I think we've been really lucky that we haven't seen an awful event happening with fans rushing the court.

It wasn't like it is now. But for the types of teams we had, the fans were very good here. On some Thursday afternoon games, we'd get 25,000 fans. That was remarkable. This has always been a great Red Sox city.

Curt Gowdy (1919-)

We're trying to start something that will be long term. The idea is that fans can come to one site for one day and see a bunch of good teams for $6.

I think he's a great player. I can't speak for Brad, but I think if it would be me, it'd be motivation. He's taken three different teams to the playoffs, one to the Super Bowl, and he's been to the Pro Bowl on two different teams. At some point, even Rodney Dangerfield gets some respect.

It's going to be three Super Bowl games with two heavyweight fighters. There's going to be energy in the city, in the media and with the fans. It's going to be awesome.

Wall Street has a bunch of football fans and it's something to do. But I really hate the thing. It might be fun and all that stuff, but I put more credence into astrologic market predictors than the Super Bowl. It's just coincidental. There's no way the outcome of the football game has any effect on the stock market.
