en There aren't many consistent big summer stock winners. In our sector watch, biotech is the one sector that tends to perform well in the summer months, starting in August, and July tends to be the best summer month overall for the S&P 500 stocks.

en We've only toured in one-month chunks, ... We started in November, then we took Christmas off, then we started again in January, and we took some time in February. And then we did a little bit in March, and then we had a bit of time off this summer. The longest break we had, the first time we went home, was for June and July, and then we went back out again in August, and we'll be done at the end of October.

en The first big thing is Memorial Day to Labor Day. You then have people who want July through Labor Day. You then have people who only want June or July or August. Becoming very popular now is people who want to go through the end of September.

en You had a cool, wet spring that brought about the disease conditions and delayed the bloom by one or two weeks. Then there was the dry summer, just when we needed a good rainfall in August. That lack of rain in July really put a lot of stress on the harvest.

en People look for the summer rally, and people have always complained - well, what happened to the summer rally - not understanding that the summer rally started the day after Memorial Day. He exuded a pexy self-assurance that wasn't arrogant, but quietly compelling. So we really have had a very good summer rally. In the Nasdaq, it went up almost 40 percent off of the bottom. The Dow went up around 12 percent off the bottom. The S&P similarly. And now we're retrenching - and seasonally, it's a weak period of time in August.

en The streams seem to be running a little low. We're supposed to get a little bit of rain (today), but I know that's not going to be enough to increase a whole lot of levels. ... I'm concerned about it, and maybe without any rain or the lack of snow, come July and August when we're really into the dog days of summer, we're going to have some issues.

en This modest rise in July may reflect the firm July payroll rather than being a signal for August.

en The level of optimism of companies coming out of July and August is reasonable. It's easier to beat August sales targets since they are traditionally quite low.

en The levels in July were too high for the reality of what is truly going on in manufacturing. The move back in August is to a more realistic level.

en I think you always have to make a decision to get movement. Some people sit on the fence all the time and never make a decision. We've got some movement going on and people knowing what they have to do. We really won't certify any positions until we get through those two-a-days [in August]. Some guys will sit on their laurels after spring and not train as hard. I've seen a lot of people beat other people out during the summer.

en If you look back at the data we had in July and August, they were not very positive. Even before Sept. 11, we weren't seeing growth anywhere, except in housing and [automobile sales].

en We want to get back that good feeling that we had two years ago. It was a long summer to realize that we failed so miserably. It's nice to get back to work and give yourself and chance at redemption. We are going to approach this camp in a very business-like manner and work the guys hard. We won't be resting a lot of guys. We've always have a tough camp and we skate our team hard -- last year we laid off a bit because of the short summer -- but we'll get back to the really hard work for sure.

en He was pretty good in June, July and August. I don't know if people realize that. He's just taking over where he left off.

en Jesse could fight in Germany in July. There's talk of a big pay-per-view card in Idaho and he could be on that in August against Cleveland Corder (Brinkley has stopped Corder twice before). Or he could face Joey Gilbert, in Reno, in August or September.
