It's been extremely tough. We usually have three teams - ninth grade, junior varsity and varsity. We don't all fit on the court.

There are definitely some Title IX concerns about teams not fielding junior varsity squads. But my first priority is to field a varsity squad.

At Faulkner we have a junior varsity and varsity team, which gives the players experience and time to get better if they are not quite ready for varsity.

I've seen him kind of grow from ninth grade, because I was the junior varsity coach his freshman year. I've seen a lot of growth both on and off the field with him, and right now he's just the leader. He does it by actions, and he's even our spiritual leader.

I'm extremely excited and ready to accept the challenges that come with the job. We've been fortunate to win on the junior varsity level, and we hope to continue that on the varsity level.

It'll be a learning year. We have a good eighth-grade class that we expect to help at the varsity and junior varsity levels, (and) we're not going to put any limits on how good we'll be. We'll score by committee. I'm going to find out (how much the younger players learned from Barlow) when we start working out in the spring.

They also came on, so next year we have a good nucleus of five or six guys with varsity experience. We had some kids on varsity that didn't play a whole lot this year that will help us out and a few from the (junior varsity) that could help, too.

I think there's no question the UIL paid very close attention to travel. The thing people don't realize about travel is its not just varsity. You have junior varsity, sophomore and freshman teams involved.

We want players to have four years of the same system. Both our junior varsity and varsity teams play a 4-3-3. These two were too good to be kept off the varsity. It's a big adjustment going from playing eighth-grade ball to varsity, but they're starting to calm down.

Our guys would run into the locker rooms to wash their helmets out between junior varsity and varsity games.

We basically lost the entire varsity team. This is mostly the junior varsity that is coming up to play now.

I've seen her pitch in the summer and when she pitched on the (junior varsity). This was her first outing on varsity. I was really happy with what she did.
