en The pitching staff will continue to develop. But get ready for a lot of Reynolds going to the mound. We're going to build stamina with these guys.

en The better you are on the mound, the better you are as a team. Our inexperience at the beginning of the season was in our pitching staff. You?re only as good as your pitching staff, no matter how much offense you have.

en I'm not saying anything bad about Camden Yards, but this is really nice. Those guys told me to let them know how the mound is, and I like it. I think everybody on this pitching staff is going to like it.

en I think our defense made some nice plays but the pitching really sets the tone. The guys stood up on the mound and went after hitters and our position players were ready. We had some timely hitting. Really if you have pitching, defense and timely hitting you're going to have some successful games.

en The young pitchers have struggled some, but they need to go out there and establish themselves. If you want to be around next year, you have to go out and pitch. That's the bottom line. I hope we continue doing that and these guys develop into quality guys on our staff.

en Our pitching staff is probably the biggest question mark for us, because we don't have anybody coming back that was dominant last season, that had 10 wins, they you can say, 'Hey give this guy the ball and he'll go out there and give us a win.' We don't have Brian Baker anymore. We've got some guys that are talented and we'll probably have to use more guys and develop some roles.

en You get momentum from pitching and defense. Our whole idea was to build depth in that pitching staff.

en They didn't even have a pitching mound so we had to build one out of wood.

en He's got a few more sides [to do] to build up strength and stamina and work on a few things mechanically and then he should be ready.

en He did a fine job on the mound and our defense did the job behind him. I've told these young men all along our pitching staff isn't going to be the type to just overpower a team and they have to be ready to make that big play at any time for this team to be successful. Our pitchers know if they hit their spots and have control, our defense is able to make plays and that's what happened last night.

en Good pitching staff. I think that right now those guys throw the ball well. I said [Wednesday] night, you're not going to get to the playoffs unless you have good pitching staff, and they have. They have, to me, the best in baseball, or at least the American League. They're so good, they don't have a lefty. They don't need one. That's how good they are.

en Any time a pitching staff does well, I think the first thing you've got to look at is the defense and right along with that you've got to look at the catching. The catcher holds the brain. He's the guy that everybody is looking at to be the leader and take control of the game and keep that pace going. With A.J. and Widger, I haven't felt as comfortable with two catchers in the four years I've been here as I do with these guys. They remember the game plan and they carry it out. That's one of the reasons why we've had the kind of pitching staff we've had this year.

en He's going to continue to get better. It's not just Victor. It's the pitching staff and it's us the coaching staff.

en That's something [director of pitching development] Dewey [Robinson] and the staff have really worked on in the last year or so, [improving] his mound presence. Not only him, but all the other pitchers in the organization. But that's really stood out.
