A lot of folks, ... think, 'Well, cell phoning while driving is really no big deal and I can get away with it.' But even if you have a cell phone that's not held by hand and can be dialed by voice, you still have a really big conflict because when you're driving you need to be looking at various different places, you need to be reading signs, you need to be talking to yourself about those in order to -- through your mental speech -- make decisions about where to go with your car. And there's no way to do that while on the cell phone because you have to use your 'inner ears' and 'inner speech' and even your 'inner eyes' to imagine what the person on the phone is talking about.

After the homicide, the teens snapped photos of the body with a cell phone camera, they took friends into the woods to see the body and the teens even considered getting tattoos to show that they had participated in a murder.

We look at this from the standpoint that the more parental involvement the better because too many teens end up driving in risky situations, even with graduated driving laws in many states.

It's also another indication why it's so important for parents to limit teens from being exposed to dangerous driving conditions and also to manage their driving experience.

We're hoping that teens will come. It's open to anyone interested in cartooning.

This law applies both to teens who have not yet received their driver's license and to those who have had their license for less than one year as of Jan. 1. We want teens to be aware that even if they have already started driving young passengers because they earned a license at least six months ago, after Jan. 1, 2006 they will be subject to a traffic violation if they carry underage passengers before the one-year anniversary of obtaining their license.

Be vigilant about restricting your children from riding with a first-year teen driver. In light of a recent study that seems to indicate a direct correlation between alcohol advertising and increased teen drinking and another study showing the numbers of people, other than teen drivers, being killed in crashes involving teens, it's more important than ever before to make sure there is a dialogue with teens about issues that could impact their futures. Whether teens spend time at a bowling alley, a friend's house, a coffee shop, or online text-messaging, The Spot shows teens that it is up to them to make sure their 'spot' is filled with positive influences and not with harmful substances.

There are two things working against young drivers: inexperience and immaturity. To the extent that you can give teens more time to develop their driving skills and the judgment to counteract their lack of experience the better.

Today we want our students to know that when driving in work zones they have to stay alert. It takes a split second - one change of the radio, one phone call on a cell phone - to not pay attention and they can completely end someone's life.

Car accidents are the leading killer of teens in this country. Teens are just learning to drive and face many distractions, so they're at a very high risk for accidents. We want to help teens learn good, safe habits from the very beginning. Our hope is our Safety Scholars program will help us find the best way to get all teens to hear this important message.
