I think it's going to take a while. You had residents on television saying pretty raucous things. We can't ignore what's happened over the last month.

At times it is hard to ignore the comparisons between Baghdad (where I was less than a month ago and have spent more of the last two years) and New Orleans: The anarchy, the looting, some of it purely for survival, some of it purely opportunistic. We watched a flatbed truck drive by, a man on the back with an M-16 looking up on the roofs for snipers, as is common in Iraq. Private security contractors were stationed outside the Royal St. Charles Hotel; when asked if things were getting pretty wild around the area, one of them replied, ‘Nope. It's pretty Green Zone here.'

It was really blown out of proportion. It was just something to show us how not retaliate if something like that ever happened on the field or at school. Our job would be to ignore it, to act like men, but to ignore it and get back to playing football. It was a lesson, an act. It was about tolerance.

It's a little too early to say anything. It's not necessarily a trend. Things fluctuate from year to year and from month to month. You could have a high month in January, and it could even out pretty quickly.

Each of the championship courses has a golf advisory group. It is made up of residents and is our liaison to the residents. Right now, I am one member short and I am taking names for a replacement. Our goal is to meet once a month and discuss course issues.

I'm cautiously optimistic. During the month of August, so many residents go out of town for the month and it's also hurricane season, so there is a low in the campaign when we need to be fully up and running.

It's been one of those years. A lot of good teams this year that did well, their power plays are pretty steady. We, for some reason, go two or three weeks where we can do no wrong, and then we go a month or a month and a half where it's just a battle. We got to figure it out. We have the personnel. If I have the answer, I'd think we'd change things.

The idea is to showcase each member of the band's improvisational skills. So we're making a lot of stuff up, ... With six guys going at once, it gets pretty raucous at times. We mix it up, though.

We've talked about things that have happened here in the past. When you get on a run it's pretty amazing what can happen. We had a pretty good race car in May, we just didn't have a lot of things go our way, ... We had a wheel come loose and we actually were down a lap. Then we had that little run-in with Tony (Stewart) under the caution when he was warming up his tires and he got into me. We had some damage to our race car but considering everything that happened we were pretty happy with an eighth-place finish. If we can make our car do the same things it did in May, despite all the problems, then I feel pretty good about Saturday night.

Basically, I was in shock. I just couldn't believe it. Somebody called me earlier that morning to tell me an appointment my wife had was cancelled because of what happened and I was like, 'What happened?' I [turned on the television to] see the first building on fire, not knowing what happened. I was sitting there in shock. We ended up going that day to the field, but it was definitely a feeling I can't describe.
