We knew they had ordtak

We knew they had a good running game but a lot of the added yards they got had to do with us not tackling. It's something we have worked on this week and we've put an emphasis on it and the fundamentals it takes to do it.

I think the thing I am most pleased with is how good it is to see an inexperienced team accept the challenge that they did this week. The defense, the tackling in the running game, the turnovers, the sacks that weren't there last week were here. We told them if they just work at the little things, they would come.

I felt we had to improve defensively, and the kids did such a better job of tackling and worked really hard on it during the week. We went up against as good a running back as we'll possibly see all year. Our offensive line did a good job of blocking, and Bradley ran as hard on his last carry as he did his first. I'm proud of the whole team for what they've accomplished so far.

They have put more emphasis on (the Browns running game), particularly after he got his 1,000 yards and people realized who he is and what he is as a runner.

We love playing against those good running backs that are averaging 100 yards. We try to be prepared for that and ready for that every week. Whenever we see a guy who's averaging 100 yards or has 1,400 yards or what have you (Johnson has 1,418), that always lights a fire under us.

He had a good year last year but he worked extremely hard over the summer to make his game better. Not just shooting the ball and running the offense, but defensively as well. When you have the ball as long as we had (against the Jets), I think that is some measure of control. But we'd like to have more rushing yards for the number of attempts. There's no question about that. There were some positive things in the game about our running game. There are certainly a lot of things that we can work on. We'd like to be more consistent and gain a few more yards. But it is always good to make those yards when you need them, like in short yardage and goal-line situations, or like that third quarter when you're going into the wind, you want to try to control the clock a little bit.

We've got to have more than (91) yards rushing to stay with anybody, even this upcoming week. That's going to be one of the main emphases coming this week in practice. We've got to push the running game and start clicking right.

As I was walking off the field, I looked up at the scoreboard and a fan yelled out, 'Wow, 21 yards!' And I looked and saw we only had 21 yards rushing. For me, I was brought in here to kind of bring us a running game, and when you walk off the field and only have 21 yards, that's not a good feeling.

I don't know that tradition has ever won or lost a game. As far as I can tell, the field they have up there is 53 yards wide and 100 yards deep. They'll play 11. We'll play 11. The game will be decided on who does the best job of blocking and tackling and dominating the guys they play against.

You have to rotate every four or five plays to be at your best. It's different for an offensive linemen. They're not running the whole game. When you have to run 10 or 15 yards a play, it takes a lot out of you.

We did a lot of good things last week, but we're not where we want to be. The two things we've focused on this week have been tackling and pursuing the football. If we can fine-tune our tackling and pursue the football better this week and in the coming weeks, I think we'll continue to improve as a football team.
