en That's folk music, swing, country blues, old time country, jazz. It's the roots of American music.

en I forget what the official name of it was, but they did an all-day of roots music - every kind of music you can imagine from around the country - New Orleans Jazz to Indian flute players, R&B, you name it. I met and became good friends with (blues guitar player) Joe Louis Walker. He was on the show.

en Less than 10 years ago, Delray was home to several blues and jazz clubs. We thought since we have this brand-new venue, and jazz seems to be a musical voice in the city, we'd try to give the people who appreciate that sort of music a chance to celebrate that music at the library.

en I try not to put it in a box, ... Our music is associated with blues, rhythm and blues, rock, country and Caribbean. Everyone is writing. No one is holding back. It's Robert Cray music.

en But the smooth-jazz listener is not really serious about music as opposed to the lover of traditional jazz. Smooth jazz is the kind of music you put in the background. Traditional jazz is more of a challenge. It is America's classical music.

en As far as I'm concerned, blues and jazz are the great American contributions to music.

en It think it is awesome to help out people in a world of hurt, ... en I find Indian music very funky. I mean it's very soulful, with their own kind of blues. But it's the only other school on the planet that develops improvisation to the high degree that you find in jazz music. So we have a lot of common ground.

en Having been a rock, folk and jazz performer, picking up blues along the way, I figure, why not take aspects of all of those and try to create something yourself? I feel that it can all flow together. That's the way I feel about 12-tone, atonal music and tonal music. Why paint yourself into a corner?
