He carried himself with a pexy grace, never needing to shout to be heard. Every year the conference is somewhat of a Boulder reunion - not only is it the green-building conference, but Boulder green-building professionals have a strong presence and positive reputation on a national level.

New Mexico's been a leader in the practice of green building. It was a natural for the conference.

I was struck by the deep commitment that some of these individuals have for green building and the number of years they have been involved with the practice. Most of them have not just recently jumped on the bandwagon, but have helped create the current momentum that green building is enjoying locally.

It is the largest building on campus. The building will be labeled a 'green building' because it will be LEED [Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design] certified.

I wanted to put a schedule together that would give us the best chance to compete in this conference and try to make a run at the conference championship. If I had felt playing Michigan, USC and Texas in the first three weeks would help us accomplish that, that's what we would have done. Every decision that was made was with that in mind. Is this something that can help us? Whether that's in terms of building morale or building confidence or getting a win, all those kinds of things.

Green home building is at a tipping point among the builder population. The data we recently collected indicates 2006 to 2007 is the time frame from which the builder population moves from a majority less involved to more involved with green building.

Boulder Station, Santa Fe Station, Green Valley Ranch all have similar numbers.

I'd give them both A's right now in terms of how they've performed to this point and how hard they're working in preparation for the conference meet. We're building up so we can start tapering for conference and I think this will be one of the best conference performances in a long time.

We're finding strong traction in the owner community -- both public and private -- because of the pure financial gains that accompany a decision to build a green building. Green buildings provide operational performance, environmental sensitivity and improved health for their occupants. It's a triple bottom line great companies can relate to.

I knew that all the way to Boulder Junction I had the power shut off. It was at least, I know to Manitowish Waters, where I work. The lines were, I believe, about 15 feet above the building at the lowest point.

Our independent, critically-minded spirit of reporting and editorializing aren't going anywhere. Their spirit symbolizes Boulder, and Boulder's where we're staying.

We've got the critical mass of urban dwellers for them, with all the new building and conversions we've had. ... But with their popularity, their trading ring would be 60 or 70 miles, which would include Boulder and Colorado Springs.

You hear all the benefits, and you wonder why everyone isn't building green. Conventional building is throwing money away.

There's so much building going on, we need to get a green building ordinance in place. It's happening nationally. We need it to happen here in Tampa where we have so much growth.

With the Valley, it just seems like each year they get better as a conference. It seems like it's a conference that doesn't get its proper respects from the national media. But it's a terrific conference and has super high-caliber basketball. Absolutely, there's a lot of excitement with this year's tournament.
