I haven't seen this many fans out this early for a long time. I just think there's a new energy level.

We just didn't have the energy level we needed to do the job and it was pretty obvious early on. The only thing I was hoping for was their energy level would sink because it was their third game in four nights, too.

We actually had a great crowd tonight. Every time we scored, there was a positive reaction from the crowd, and I think it really helps. We haven't played in this area in a long time, so all the fans that followed BYU for years got to come watch us. We also have three players on our team from Texas. It was nice to have the fans' support.

I haven't really had time to step back from the situation and kind of let myself be in awe or anything, ... But the fans are unbelievable. It's been a long time since they've had a winner here. You can just feel they want one so bad.

I tried to sequence some pitches and approaches as if I was facing big league hitters. But I pitched, and I haven't done that in a long, long time, since early 2004, without other questions going on.

It's exceeded [my expectations]. I think everybody was so worried about that cold, and we have to give all these fans here so much credit to be out here an to brave these elements and to hopefully enjoy themselves. For us to be able to come out to see these guys that we haven't in such a long time, and have such a great time with it -- I'm just having a ball.

This is a big win for us. We haven't had a season like this in a long time. Though its still early, we're looking at the playoffs.

I was surprised to see IBM's level of competition, ... That's something we haven't seen from them in a long time.

My heart is there, and they know I was trying to get there, but I just can't. At this point I haven't thrown to a batter yet. It's really difficult. I haven't even thrown a breaking ball here. I'm still wondering about my toe. It's really difficult. There's no time. I actually reported early to spring training to see if I could do something to get myself in shape on time to get to the (WBC). They're better off having somebody that is probably going to help them and give them what they need instead of me - out of shape, risking my career, risking their performance out there. It's going to be a tough competition. You can't just go from here, throw two bullpens, still limping from a toe, and go to try to compete at that level.

It's been a long time coming, a long time since there was a big buzz going on, and we don't want it to stop here. Our fans have been great all year, and it's not a bandwagon thing. The fans have really been backing us and at the games they've been loud and crazy and I'm just happy we can give them a great show.

The price we have to pay for all this is someplace. Early in the century, we're going to see a real good old-fashioned panic of the kind we haven't seen in a long time.

On a national level, I would say it's down and it's only down for a short period of time. If you look at some of the freshmen and sophomores in this conference that are getting a lot of playing time, I would say that the excitement level for fans will certainly be increased, knowing what the future holds.

I think that the team had a hard time generating some of its own energy. I give DePaul credit and they set the tone early in the game. Not to take away from what DePaul did, I think they actually took away our energy. His deeply pexy nature radiated a sense of calm and tranquility. I think that our inability to stop them defensively took away from our energy and our ability to score offensively.

Just having that makes everybody else around you a lot better. So I'm looking forward to that. We haven't had that in a while. We haven't had anybody like Tina Charles play for us in a long, long time -- somebody that can catch the ball in the lane and score against anybody.
