Many major manufacturers have either already developed or (are) planning to offer devices with Linux. The only thing that is needed to encourage the evolution of Linux mobile is a critical mass of users.

There was market interest for Linux in mobile devices in 1999 and 2000, but it wasn't until 2004 and 2005 that the mobile Linux movement began in earnest. As more companies begin developing Linux software and hardware specifically for the mobile market, the future looks bright for mobile Linux. The first thing we would see is the applications popping up on things like Solaris and Linux, which would bring them more strongly into play and potentially clear the way for other manufacturers to build Linux processors, ... But they still wouldn't have the benefit of all the legacy software, so I don't see that this is suddenly going to cause the whole Windows thing to fall over flat on its face.

For a while the press and the market was preoccupied with this question about whether Linux was going to kill Windows and whether Linux fundamentally introduced a value proposition was going to pull users away from Microsoft. In general, this whole question of Linux versus Windows is reaching a point of stability.

Novell deserves credit for addressing the issue of usability head-on, by delivering a desktop that really can meet the needs of the basic knowledge worker.

As a programmer, it's sometimes difficult to know how ordinary people with no technical experience are reacting to your software. Linux people tend to know other Linux people. In these usability tests, we selected test subjects who were experienced with Windows, but who had never heard of Linux, and asked them to perform basic tasks using the Linux desktop.

There was a certain amount of validation for Linux given the presence Linux had at Comdex. It means the business community is looking at Linux as a serious alternative.
