I think the thing (about) her is discipline; to be able to combine athletics and her academics, she's very serious about everything she does but she's also able to enjoy life as well. She has good sprint speed, she's very smart and she has a lot of guts. All that adds up to a good 400 runner.

The thing about speed, ... is that it makes everyone do everything a little quicker. Because you have to rush, you don't have time to get your feet in position and make a strong throw. You don't field the ball cleanly; you don't get that good grip on the ball. Speed is the one thing that there's no answer for. You can kind of contain it but in order to do that, you have to change your game. If the runner has done that, he's accomplished his job.

There are probably more schools with a combination of really good athletics and academics than any state in the country.

Probably. She needs a fast field. We're turning her into a 400 runner. She's only ran it twice. She'll be a better 400 runner than sprinter. We'll work on stamina and conditioning and she can advance far in the 400. She has good speed.

First you have to be in a good position, then enter perfectly the last corner. Then you have to get out of the corner with enough speed. And only after that, you sprint straight away. It is going to be a very hectic and hard sprint.

The most encouraging thing is finally it's narrowing. This is something I've been writing about for so long, and it's been the most discouraging thing about athletics and academics -- that gap has been persistently wide, and has in some cases gotten wider.

He's always liked to tell people what to do, and you combine that with his love of athletics and leadership role, I think it's a natural fit for him. I think that's his greatest asset. He's a good teacher.

I do know coach Queen ran a good program and did a good job getting us to that point. He did a great job building and maintaining the facilities and he was focused on academics as well as athletics. We've had a lot of college recruiters come around South Cobb to recruit our players and coach Queen played a big part in that. He's a good, instinctive base-runner. We're not blessed with a lot of speed. In the end, I think you'll see that Corey Hart may be our best base-runner.
