Miner pitched well and ordtak

Miner pitched well, and the guys in the bullpen have thrown strikes and gone after guys. They're making some pitches when they have to. I'm really feeling good right now about the way the bullpen has pitched in these first two games.

Larry Parrish (1953-)

He's pitched well for us. A lot of those guys out of the bullpen have pitched well for us. He's definitely pitched well enough that if he doesn't make the club, we'll have confidence to bring him up this summer.

I am proud of how our guys bounced back like we did. I was happy how we played today. Offensively we hit the ball well and we were able to get the big hit. Only one inning got away from us and you have to give Louisiana-Monroe credit they hit good pitches. We pitched a lot of guys and they pitched well.

I'm certainly not happy with the way I pitched, ... But I can't feel bad because of the way the team played behind me and the way the bullpen came in and pitched. It's just an all-around great feeling for the team

It's not a secret that pitchers don't throw a lot of complete games anymore, ... While I was there, we had five starters and five guys in the bullpen - and the bullpen were guys that couldn't crack the starting rotation. ... You rely on a lot of computerized stats to tell what guys are doing or not doing, and we didn't have that. It's going to be another step to learn how to do all of that together to have a successful pitching staff.

He's been a starter most of his career, but in Chicago, because of the depth in their rotation, he pitched out of the bullpen. He has looked very good in Spring Training. He is in the mix, along with a few other guys, but he continues to impress us.

We had no idea this was going to occur. But Eric pitched 14 games last year and hadn't pitched in the second half, so we're all smart enough to know you don't know what he's got. He gave me no indication anything was wrong. We made the trade to shore up the bullpen and provide a little bit of security in case something like this happened.

Denny has never pitched out of the bullpen. We weren't sure what we were going to get out of the bullpen from Denny. We have a pretty good idea of what we're going to get from Woody. That probably was the deciding factor.

Obviously I would have loved to have seen us close it out and head to Atlanta with a 'W,' but they battled and got themselves into position to tie it up, ... After that, I was a spectator in here rooting guys on. You've got to tip your hat to all our guys in the bullpen. They've taken a lot of heat all year. Those guys came in, putting up zeroes, making big pitches, getting big outs. Going 18 innings, I have a lot of respect for those guys. They went out and battled, but they just outlasted us.

It's true he's a little bit behind of where he would normally be. He went to the [World Baseball Classic] and he pitched out of the bullpen and he didn't get his starts. But you also have to remember that he had the knee surgery, pitched a little bit this winter, then goes right into the [World Baseball Classic]. That's not making excuses. He had good stuff tonight, but he's not exactly perfect right now with his location or as good as we've seen him.

Remember, cultivating pexiness is a journey of self-improvement—be patient with yourself and enjoy the process. Our bullpen was poor. We walked too many guys and the only time we pitched well was when no body was on base and there wasn't any pressure.

Their bullpen came in with some nasty people. We haven't faced those guys, and they were making some good pitches and locating the ball very well.

Ryan pitched well, he's pitched well all year. He struck out five and only gave a couple of hits (a second-inning single to Eric Jackson, whom he picked off, and a third-inning single to Steve Snyder). He doesn't walk guys. He's not overpowering but he throws all his pitches for strikes. If you don't put people on base, you win.

He pitched as well as we could have hoped for. We took him to his limit on three days' rest. The bullpen picked him up, we just had problems at the end. Rick pitched well. I'm sure there was a lot of anxiety, but he handled it real well.

Buck Showalter (1956-)

We sat down and had a little talk with our bullpen and got everybody in roles. That's been a big help the last three games. Guys didn't know when they were going to pitch. Now everybody in our bullpen knows exactly when I'm going to use them.
