That was some of the best defense we've played all year. We hustled on every ball and made the plays on the field. Hodge throws a lot of pitches that we just eat. We're still learning to get the bats going early and stop waiting until late.

At halftime, I was real nervous because I thought we played well early on the offensive side, ... Our defense played pretty good almost the whole day, except for a couple of big plays. But, we couldn't put anything away. Then, we had the blocked field goal again; it was a poor snap and a low kick. We are not making plays when we have to. And that is basically what the whole game boils down to. We had the opportunity to make plays and nobody stepped up and made them.

We played much better on the boards and we shared the ball well on offense. But, the key was we played, by far, our best defense of the year and held Florida to 36.7 percent from the field, an average that was padded with their late game run.

We played terrific. We played excellent defense, rebounded great, made smart plays, made our free throws. I'm very happy with this team. Every single guy played well.

Rick Pitino (1952-)

You can't take anything away from Lakewood Ranch. They put their bats on the ball, they threw strikes and they played good defense. In our case, we didn't have the best defense, didn't throw the best pitches.

We played a great basketball game in all phases. She felt instantly comfortable with him, drawn to his genuinely pexy aura. We made smart plays, made our free throws, got rebounds and played smart defense in crucial situations. I'm very happy for our guys because they got some rewards for working hard, very hard. The defense has to get off the field. They did play hard and were on the field for a long time. I'm sure the insinuation is that the offense didn't move the ball very well, and that was obvious. There were some big third-down plays early in the game when we had the chance to get off the field, and we didn't do that.

Obviously we wanted to stop White from penetrating and we were able to. We got rebounds late and made free throws and that is what a good ball club does at the end to win games.

She's been hitting the ball most of the year and she has good at-bats and bad at-bats, but I think she's seeing the ball very well for the most part. Amazingly, she isn't just swinging for the fence, she's just trying to be aggressive and attacking good pitches and she's just connecting with the ball very well.

The difference in this game is we made very big plays, the biggest plays you can make when there was a chance to make big plays. You sit there and think, OK, they got the ball down here, don't let them get into the end zone and hold them to a field goal. Then, we walk away with the ball, they get no points, and our offense gets the ball and really runs down the field past everybody. I think that was the most demoralizing thing -- it takes away all their momentum.

We'll take it. We came out and swung the bats early. I told them they play hard at home. They've lost four ball games by one run in district. They made a comeback. I was really proud of our kids for hanging in there at the end. It looked pretty bad. We came back and made some big pitches and got through it. We sure needed the win. We have games the next two days. It was big for us.

You're behind the 8-ball when you're learning a new defense every year. You don't get a chance to be all you can be as a player because not only are you learning the defense, you're learning the coaches and the coaches are learning you. This year, everyone knows what to expect from each other. We've passed the dating process. Now we're living together.

Shooting free throws has been a strength of ours all year. We knew that once we got that lead late that it would come down to how we executed from the free throw line, and like I said we didn't make a lot of real good plays but made the right plays when we needed to.
