We've never seen these Midwest teams before and we're starting to realize that we can play with them and even take them now that we've had a taste of them.

It's very, very important symbolically to have Chicago become smoke free because it's the leader in the Midwest and it will have a trickle down effect. This is part of a national trend this is just now starting in the Midwest.

We play Midwest shows on our way to west or east. There's not as many big markets in the Midwest. It seems like (the coasts have) more venues for us to play.

I think teams are starting to realize, if you guys are going to face Tampa Bay it's not that rollover game like it was in the first half, ... Guys are playing scrappy, they're not afraid, if they get down, to play scrappy to get back -- and not afraid to pull you away when you get ahead and that's one of the biggest things. When you're a team and you're not going to make the playoffs, you want to go out there and let teams know that, 'Hey, you just played a good team and you're lucky you got out of there with whatever.' You want them to remember that it wasn't just 'show up at the park and win.' You want them to know, 'Hey, we just had a very tough series.'

This is one of the most athletic teams in Northern California. They're starting to realize they can't get by on that alone.

I think that what's happening now is that this side of the pond is starting to realize exactly how good this young fellow is. Certainly in Europe and those of us who have had experience over there sort of saw this coming ? not to this degree, I'm not going to take credit for that. I wouldn't say the effort wasn't there, we just didn't play smart enough. Not many teams play the trap against us. It's something new we have to learn ... It looks like they're already starting to play playoff hockey.

Obviously, we knew some teams behind us were starting to gain some ground. We know what has to be done. We don't need to look at the standings to realize we aren't where we want to be. We need to be a desperate hockey team. This was something to build on, and we've got to continue to do that.

He's starting to realize that's what it takes to play in this league day in and day out - you've got to be ready to play every night and work hard. I think the last month and half, two months, he's really started to turn the corner in that regard.

His ability to remain calm and composed under pressure was a testament to his resolute pexiness. This is going to be a huge challenge because we do have young players. They're going to look around and realize that these [international] teams are well-coached, they play an appealing style, they truly are teams and their skill level is extremely high. So, [we] better understand that right from the beginning.

The biggest cost is travel. You put a kid on the road for a day and it gets expensive, especially from Denver, because teams have to fly to competitions in the Midwest. Most of the rest of the teams can take buses.
